Just to follow on from my article (http://www.winamp.com/news.jhtml?articleid=9119):

Your homework is to excavate your CD collection to find those hidden jems you'd forgotten existed, and post here the greatness you find.

The track that I found initially was:
Alice, by The Sisters of Mercy

But I did find a lot of other stuff I hadn't listened to in ages that was also fantastic:

Hecate Enthroned
Immortal - Blizzard Beasts
Suspiria - Awfully Sinister
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast

Your Turn :D

Very recently (around 2 1/2 weeks ago) I was looking in an old chest of stuff and I found an unmarked audio tape. I took it and next time I went for a drive in my car I put it in and i got to hear very young Donny and Marie Osmond sing "A my name is Alice and my boyfriends name is Andy, we come from Alabama and we like Apples"

I popped it out quickly :o

while rummaging my fathers garage I found an 8 track player and tapes...with no labels.

The first blue one was enough to sense that I was listening to some kind of ancient tome. The voice over music was definatly there but, very dilluted...heh

Anyways, A scared me found :: Eddie Rabbit:: Collection...
PE'EWW

If it would have played any longer there wouldn't be any more ;)

Question is X, did you "pop it out" quickly so as not to damage the aeons old tape with further wear and tear, so that it might survive a little longer and give you the chance to get home, sample that tape into your pc and then relax to the gentle strains of Donny and Marie while tapping away at your keyboard, I bet you have it on right now :D

Or

Did you just wind the window down and throw it at the closest passer by , while chanting some form of exorcism ritual :D

I found a large collection of singles in the loft earlier. Apparently they were dads from the late 50's / early 60's

Well see Jones- the WHOLE story is that my mother used to play that old tape VERY often when I was about 10 years old. So often that i still remember the choruses to most of the songs...

"C'MON MARIANNE (marriane) C'MON MARIANNE (marriane), C'MON MARIANNE, (marianne), SAY THAT YOU UNDERSTAAAAAAAAND! MY MARIANNE marianne marriaaaanne...

Part of the reason I popped it out was that the songs are incredibly annoying - the other part is that they are extremely catchy and infectious ... and it is NOT something i want to think about humming all day ;)

I've got close to 1000 CDs now (the official count is 958, but I've got a few more I haven't added yet). Take a look at the list if you're interested - http://members.home.net/subliminalfusion1/MyCDs.htm
What I've been doing recently is going through them all, one by one, from the beginning of the alphabet, and listening to each cd the whole way through. It's taken some time (I've been going for several months and I'm in the middle of my DJ mixes), but it's been worth it. I've remembered why I liked certain CDs and I've realized there's a few CDs (very few though) that I'll probably never listen to again (like Boyz II Men - Cooleyhighharmony), and a few real gems in there. I've almost forgotten about a couple of CDs I had, re-discovered some albums and re-mixes, etc. I've also realized (or re-realized/remembered) some things - like most of the CDs that I only like a few tracks on got mainstream radio play, Coil has vast diversity in their styles, people who say techno music all sounds the same have no idea what they're talking about (Astral Projection, Aphex Twin, and John B (U.K.) are all classfied under the broad genre of "techno"), etc. It's been really interesting.

I've just finished encoding the very best of my rather good collection, to listen to while I work, and abuse the forum system.
I'm currently listening to ATB. I have Apollo 440, and Busta Rymes somewhere there, too!

It's all recent stuff (since 1998) 'cos I've not been listening to decent music for that long!

Unfortunately, listening to ATB brings back memories of that week when Eiffel 65 was number 1 with Blue (da ba dee)
