um Sonique... heard of it... never used it. never cared to. I had Winamp. I'm a firm believer in survival of the fittest and not really sorry to see them go if that's their fate. Winamp, on the other hand, would be a tragic loss to the SW world! =)

check out some tunes surviving despite environmental indicators to the contrary - http://www.mp3.com/sici

peace & may the best player MERCILESSLY CRUSH THE COMPETITION!

You really should try sonique, it's just a shame that they got canned before 2.0 was finished, it would have blown winamp 3 and any other player right out of the water

Sonique was ok... for the very best
in players, check out the QCD player.
Every aspect is more powerful than
Winamp and much friendlier than
Sonique while retaining the "cool
quotient" from Sonique. It dogs
Winamp in virtually every way.
Doesn't everybody here ever get
tired of these 'skins' for Winamp?

Different buttons, a different back-ground
and that's it. Skins on QCD completely
change the look of the interface
while retaining "friendliness" of
the functions.

Everyone here really should try it.

If something works and works well......... why bother to change. I have yet to find a file player with enough bonuses to negate the fact that winamp uses so little of my system resources.

It said in the artical that the econimy was booming. It wasn't! The last Boom time was in the 40s. The only reason that the 90s looked good was because the massive lines of credit that were given to ppl who were paid less than they were 20 years before after inflation. Thats why the nasdaq plumeted and thats why these companies are falling.

I've tried Sonique and wasn't impressed. It was underpowered and navigation was terrible. Considering the download was over twice as large as WA, it was a waste of bandwidth. Sonique did was more visually pleasing when it didn't devour my systems resources, but it's playback was only average and it's support for various file formats was very limitted.

As far as I am concerned an audio player needs to be flexible with it's file types and give good playback. Because it's user interface is so simple WA is just easier to use. And as for skinning, I prefer to have skins that leave my controls in the same place. But this is all my opinion.

If you're going to rip on other players, you should learn to spell. You're only making yourself look like a moron.

Noo...

Although I much prefer Winamp's interface I find it skips a little and have been using Sonique.
Ah well, I was gonna move to Winamp 3 when its released as it doesn't skip either.

1)sonique it the only media player to beat winamp in downloads off cnet ever (it whoop it also)

2)sonique was well known for its better sounding decoder then winamp for years

3)soniques visuals and interface killed winamp hands down..

but winamp is a lean player which is cool also!

sonique is what u use when u got resources to waste, it does everything perfectly (great looking, great sounding)

winamp is the happy medium, trade of sound and looks for speed (while using winamp u can actually do stuff like graphic design on ps6.. which doesnt really work all that well while u got sonique running rabbit hole :P)

both players had their role and saying one was shit and the other was great is pretty stupid..

sonique will be remembered as the only player to ever give winamp a run for its money (and beat it)

sonique's sounds better, i always tweak winamp to be comparable
(could be my sound card, and setup)
it has a slick menu system, visuals and skins

it can slow old PC's down, i really doubt those new PC's are even lagged
the playlist is below par
it's hard to find many decent freeform skins
and it's possible that v1.95 is their last full release.

Well, all things considered, Sonique ran crappy on my comp. This is probably because my comp is also a peice of crap itself. I still like Winamp's interface better though.

 First mp3 player that I ever used was winamp and i never took sonique seriously for a while but then a friend showed me the program and I was blown away by how awsome the skins were, the interface was fluid and elegant, the music sounded better, and it wasn't constrained to a box shape. Sonique was trully the coolest player I had ever seen in my life. I use both sonique and winamp just because i do like both for different reasons, though i use sonique more, and i'm trully sad to see it go after all the hype around how cool sonique 2 was going to be and after seeing the mantis tech demo it looked like it was going to live up to the hype. And to all you winamp is god advocates try try this sonique combo.

Skin= indiglo assasin
song=Ailen Ant Farm "smooth criminal"
Plugin=Cor's Spec n'hop

Or any rock/techno song to the "Smear" plugin
You won't be disappointed :)

Well, I still use Sonique, but when Winamp 3 get's some easier to use free-form skinning, I'm sure to use it (I've got 256mb of ram, resources be damned!:D)

Anyway, the competition was certainlly benifital to both players, and it's sad that Sonique is no longer a competitor.

Ditto.

I compared Winamp and Sonique for a month, and Winamp beat Sonique, which beat WMP.

For download, Winamp beat Sonique and WMP.
For visualisations, Winamp supports plugins in seperate windows, which the others don't, they depend on how large an area the skin designer has assigned for the vis.
For playback quality, Winamp beat Sonique, 'cos S skipped on some of my compressed wav's, while WMP skipped on half of them, and completely refused to play the other half. However, S could play my Koochy mp3, which NO release of WMP could.

Skinning is the only area in which WMP beat WA and S.
'Cos S doesn't have that many good skins, and I can't figure out how to make one, and WA isn't freeform skinning, but it's easy to skin.

Actually, Sonique skinning is VERY easy.

I think i used sonique for a couple of weeks about a year ago but then i switched to winamp. I haven't looked a sonique since. I do know that sonique looks better than winamp but i still like winamp better.

You should really have tried out Sonique...audio quality was great, visiuals were good and the interface was awesome.Dont you get bored with the 'boxy' winamp look?..and you say survival of the fittest?...the only reason winamp is still alive and kicking is bcause AOL bought Nullsoft...nothing else.btw did you read about the staff at Nullsoft being laid off??

Personally I use Sonique and QCd...winamp is boring.

Yeah installed Sonique once and couldn't find that damn play button so it came straight off. My winamp spends it's whole life in winshade and always on top mode ;)

Did you try the button with a triangle in it? It's pretty obvious...
