View Full Version : Winamp prevents Win98SE from shutting down

I'm using Winamp v2.76 on Win98SE.
I can't remember how long it has been doing this for, but now, whenever I try to restart or shut down windows while winamp is still open, Windows starts to shut down, then just returns to the desktop.
It goes into the darkened mode where everything except the Shut Down menu is hazed into the background.. Then after you choose what you want to do, the menu disappears, the hazzy covering stays for a few seconds, and then it goes back to normal.

I'm sure its Winamp causing it, because I shut down everything else running except for Systray, VPlus and Explorer and it was still doing it. When I close winamp.. poof, it works.

Any ideas?

sounds like a bad third party plug-un, delete all of them

Infact compleatly un-install and re-install Winamp

Search your Winamp/plugins - directory for evil 3rd party plugins, especially a file called gen_nomad.dll - If that one's present, delete it, all it causes it trouble, basically  :(. If you don't have that certain file, or no other 3rd party plugins installed, I would suggest to fully un-install and re-install the latest version of Winamp.

If even a re-install of Winamp does not help, search this thread (http://64.12.38.241/showthread.php?threadid=36850) in the TSGH forums and see if you can find more information.

If your problem persists, reply here and provide full system specs, such as videocard, soundcard, amount of RAM installed, CPU brand & speed, Windows version, DirectX version, and so on.

Also upgrade DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/directx) as well as your drivers (http://www.windrivers.com) first.

Peace.

I just did a complete un-install/re-install of winamp, and it seems to be working fine now. Its now restarting as it should.
I did have some 3rd party plug-ins, half I didn't even use, so the clean up was good anyway.
I now have only two extra plug-ins, but they dont seem to be causing the problem this install.
