I've been a HUGE fan of Geiss and didn't think it could be topped. Guess I was wrong, Milkdrop is AMAZING!! The visuals it produces are just astounding. Watching Milkdrop on a 7.5ft projection screen is really something to behold. Here's a pic of geiss at 7.5ft

I used to use Geiss all the time when I listened to the DirecTV music channels. Also sometimes when I'm playing CD's from the CD Changer. It'd be cool to get Milkdrop to work with Line-in so I could watch when playing music outside the PC also.

Thanks
Brian

It does work with Line-In. You just have to configure your sound card right. If you have a cheap and dodgy soundcard tho, you probably can't do it. Pick up a Sounblaster Live! Value. Definitely worth it.

I have a question about line-in, actually just posted it to the comment forum.

I just had a party with a DJ and a projector, and the output level from the DJ's mixer was much lower than what is on most audio tracks, even after setting the sound card's line-input level to the top. MilkDrop doesn't respond as well with the lower input. Can I boost sensitivity? I have a soundblaster live value.

Thanks Krash!

I wasn't aware of the "linein://" URL for WinAMP. Works great now.

Thanks

I hace been using milkdrop with a pioneer mixing desk for a few months. The best way I have found of connecting it is from the pre-Out phono plugs on the mixer to the microphone input on the soundcard. It takes a bit of tweeking but it seems to work quite well. NOTE: I take no responsibility for any damage to the soundcard.

Thanks, I'll have to try that. Actually I had assumed the microphone input would be less sensitive than the line-in. But "assume" is spelled that way for a reason. ;)

I've actually found that microphone input does a great job of increasing the volume. I had my keyboard plugged into my soundcard for awhile, and the line-in input completely killed the strength. Microphone kept the sound amplified and at a strong level.

Anyone tried using milkdrop/line-in with AC97 onboard audio? Too dodgey, or does it work?

Probably depends on how good the sound source is. I really dig the DJ/milkdrop/projector combo at parties and thinking about an itty-bitty dedicated vis box with a flexatx board. Onboard video + a PCI video card (flexatx boards usually have 1 slot) would give dual monitor support so that VJ control stuff could be kept off the projector. But if AC97 is too dodgy then a real sound card would have to take up that slot, alas.
