I have seen playlists that let you describe a song's "mood" (eg: happy, sad, hyper etc) and let you choose only to play songs that match that mood - eg: Music Match Jukebox. Something else that I would love to see as a winamp plugin is a user rating scale for songs.

The way I see it working is this - attached to the winamp window (incl winshade mode) would be a little scale of say 1 - 5. While a song it playing you click on a number to represent how much you like that song (presumably any song you like less than 1 you remove from your playlist). You can rate any song as many times as you want. Each song is given a score as an average of the ratings (your interest in a song can change over time). This rating is then used to "weight" the song to determine the likelyhood that it's played again soon.

This way my favourite songs might get played every 3 or four hours, and my least favourite songs might get played once a week. It would sure beat having to keep skipping a song that you don't want to delete, but you don't want to listen to so often.

IS there such a plug-in? Can one be made? It would be great to have it combined with mood, so it'll play your favourite songs of a given mood more often.

well, I like the idea, but I should add a mood-dependence. when U start winamp, or wen playing, you should be able to choose between say 5 moods. and within such moods, U should be able to rate songs...
so if U're depressed it doenst play happy songs (or maybe you want it to, I dont...)
I havent seen such a plugin, but maybe once...
:p

Hi,

I wrote an app that runs alongside winamp and does exactly this.

Have a look at : http://www.autostationx.com

it has the ability to select tracks based on genre, mood, tempo, year etc. all of which can be turned on or off as you like.

I know I replied in a similar manner to another post recently, I apologise to those of you that take offence.

David.

Have you tried the new >MoodLogic< Plugin (listed under "general")? It automatically categorizes mp3's by genre, mood, tempo and more. They call this a song profile. They are collecting these in a network (similar to P2P). You can then generate playlists by selecting any combination of the above. It can also fix id3 tags automatically. Powerful stuff! (still in beta; worked great fro me on W2K). Would love to hear what others think.
