Here are links to a skin I'm thinking about in my head. These are very basic gray scale sketchs. I'm looking for feedback on layout and design (shape, button placement, etc). Hopefully I'm onto something interesting. Here are the links:

Is it possible to have the thinger built into the main window? I thought I saw a winamp3 skin that did that but now I can't find it.

I like the first one too.
Just something to keep in mind: I might not know everything about wa3, but i don't think that you can get window snap-to's on different angles other than 90° increments, which could make it sort of a pain when aranging the windows.
And the thinger thing: I think it was on one of Rhinotrip's or Kinwashi's skins. I think it was "Aurora Lens," but I'm not sure.

Actually we have "snap points", which allow nonrectangular docking. I say go for the first design. I would love to have a skin with hexagonal pieces for me to rearrange all day. I love skins with lots of little pieces I can play with.

This is good news, I plan on running with this design. I'm glad the initial feedback is positive. Thanks to all for the comments I will be sure to post the results in the next few weeks. Now, about "snap points." Where can I find more information on them so I can use them for my skin. I looked at stefanweb and didn't see anything.

1st one for sure, think of all the time you can waste re-arranging the bits :D

I believe so, did it on my first attempt at a WA3 skin, built the thinger onto the main window, can't recall whose skin I looked at to see how it was done, think it might have been called "frissbe" or something, anyhow I got it over at www.deviantart.com
Have a look see there, if you can stand the download times.

heh, that was yours dude?, heh, I pulled that one apart to study the xml and stuff to see how it fitted together, always better to see how someone else did it first before diving in at the deep end :)

All you have to do is copy the xml from the thinger-normal.xml file or something like that. It's real simple. The thinger is basically a component bucket.

I've been concidering making a 'legos' skin that each component was it's own piece, each button was it's own piece. problem has been, I've been so bogged down with work that I havn't had time. I'll do the graphics and explain the logistics of some stuff if anyone is brave enough to take this task.

I've stopped a while with skinning for wa3 (im busy with wa2) Problems are the lack of fantasy + time + problems with current skins so they aren't completed yet...

Is it possible to make everything moveable? If so I will be willing to try. I don't want everything seperate on mine, but I would like to possibly like to split the main window into 3 pieces(controls, visbar/time, file info).

Yeah that's possible, will take some time to do so ;)
You need to make for everything 3 xml's i guess
or is it just a new layout in the player-normal?
I think you can do both.. but it's just if you press the close button in the main you close everything (with the second one) and with the first you still keep everything as a component, which is much cooler, you can delete every piece you don't want, for example : I hate the Thinger button (EXAMPLE!! :)) you switch it away ;)

Cool, I'm going to give it a try(hopefully I don't lose sleep trying to figure it out). I'm still looking for the answer on the "snap points." I want to get this skin going asap. For now I'll continue to paint the different windows and post the results. If anyone knows where I can get more info on the "snap points" so I can have non 90 degree shapes fit that would be awesome. Again, thanks for all the help and feedback, I'll be sure to post the beta release of my skin, and post it with a very fast download connection:)

Check out boxor: http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/boxor-install.exe
It uses snap points.

Well its been a few weeks since I've done anything to the skin posted at the very top. Its been a busy month. Here is the skin with a little more color. The buttons hex is in need of some major work. I've decided to allow the user to change the main window how they want. So all the hexagons will be independent and can snap together on all flat surfaces. Here is a link to the skin (http://www.friendlynaber.com/images/hexskin_02.jpg)Please feel free to trash what you don't like, you'll be helping me make it better. Thanks!

I prefer this texture than the previous one, better and better. Go on this way ! Nevertheless, this is not my favourite wa3 skin. (I don't want to make you sad but, have you seen the skin Epsilux ?)

Can you post a link to the skin your talking about. Well I just found the skin you are talking about. Is that your favorite skin? Thats fine by me, my skin can't be everyones' favorite. When I look at mine there is only one thing that is certain. I'm keeping the hexagons. Everything else is still a toss up. I'm also trying to be different and stay away from the futuristic looking skins that all use the grayish background like something out of the FF movie. Also the skin at the top of this thread was a sketch to see if people even liked the idea(it took about 5min to make that).
