im changfing the cbuttons.. this skin will be for advanced winampers only, im going for looks over functionality.. it will still work though ;), by the way, im tired og the eq's having to be a part of the bloody framework, so im changing that right now, i'll be having individual tubes containing a glowing head, which morph the shape of the ''tube'' when moved, i can see this being a long long project, mebe ill still be doing this skin on friday :O. as for detail just you wait till you see this puppy go :P

LUCID ?! helloooo?? you around these forums lately?, i need your opinion on something!
see the above ss, how do you suggest i incoorperate the cbuttons?, i was thinking tiny symbols etched into a semi-transparent section of glass as a band around the top of the cbutton bar, and only little white dots on the actual bar as the buttons, which either glow when you press them or something equally obvious (what a bad choice of words), anyways, i'm interested to hear your , or any other viewers opinion on this matter :)

On the highlight part of your bar, you could have 3D little tiny round buttons that are not labbelled but move up down when pressed. Just a thought.

the way ive been working on the skin, in photoshop, each element has its own layer, so i can mix and match elemtns to my liking, so if later i dont like a section, i will remove it, and yes, the white area's will be transparent, as for the titlebar, thats open to abuse :), still got lots to do so ill be back shortly with a ss :)

rikki, at current im still working on ion flux and final, but ill make a section for my skins later tonight and post the link in this thread, hope this helps :)

i probably will sometime, but that isnt my problem, my problem is that the cdrom/dvd/cdr units are on the ata100 ide channel, and the hard drives are on scsi, and my copy of dvd ripper and audiocatalyst have a prob ripping to where i say, and usually scatter then around everywhere, i think i may need to reinstall and fix the registry :\

Once again you've come up with a great, very original skin. I love the smooth curves.
It's a very very detailed skins, there's loads of things going on across the skin. The main window is starting to become crowded. When I was looking at it, it took me a moment to distinguish what the controls were, but I'll get back to that in a moment.

The grid cylinder things on the titlebar look slightly out of place. As if they're part of a different machine, holding onto SS. They seem a little square. Maybe you could round off one corner and sharpen the other.

Nice colour choices, but the mass of grey starts to hurt after a whilehttp://www.mear.fsnet.co.uk/smilies/smile.gif. Seeing as it's called "Solar Storm", a little splash of low (I mean, very low) saturation orange could look good. Maybe on the wings, to give a feeling of flames.

The PL / EQ buttons are quite saturated compared to the rest of the skin. But that might be something you meant to do?

For the CButtons: That curved thing with "Solar" written on it, it's got a square cross-section, right? You could have cubes cut into it of the same material as the sphere on the EQ. And a symbol floating in the middle of each.

What are the vol/bal bars gonna do? Are you gonna have dials again, or something even more impressive http://www.mear.fsnet.co.uk/smilies/smile.gif?

Some general things:
The black lines around everything make it look almost cartoony, rather than realistic. Unless it's ridiculously hard to do, I think that it'd look smoother with all of them gone. If not gone, then not completely black.
Are the wings supposed to be round or like an aeroplane wing? If they're supposed to be round, then the shading should get darker faster, to show that they aren't flat. Like so:

[edit] thanks for the feedback lucid :), once again youve shown your vast knowledge and shed some light onto my dwindling imagination (no, serously, i havent been to sleep yet), as for the cbuttons, i will probably do different variations and ask you all later, but forn now im trying to get the general shape down, due to the way i create my skins lucid, i can alter almost anything with ease and no have to redraw anything to fit, the balls for eq and pl are oversaturated i know, i havent made them transparent yet, and in doing so, most of that saturation is lost (see section in between master vol and eq sliders), as for the gradients, ill change all those when ive finnished the designs, the clutteredness of the actual skin doesnt look that bad when youve got it transparent (im too scared to release a test version yet, lol), the colour schemes are open to abuse too, i stick with black gray and blue to get the basis down, i can easilly change the colouring later, and whoever it was that asked, i am male :), im working with my friend kim on different projects, all published under the ''teo katsuragi'' alias because she's too lazy to set her own crap up, and it makes it a little easier to find our work, i do the tech skins, she does the strange things (eg my avatar), well, ill let her post later so you can see what i mean by lazy assed student, lol :)

geez!! what can I say? I'm almost speechless. Once again another fabulous skin. The transparencies are going to make this skin.

I like the cbuttons you're using, and I agree with (looks up) Lucid on the splash of orange? yellow? red? some kind of a bright hue in the lighting would make a lot of difference.

As original as this skin is compared to most, I also have to agree with Bo, it looks a lot like the other 2. Which isn't a bad thing, just an observation. The tint of orange? red? yellow? in the lighting would really make it stand out from the other 2. Not too much mind you, just a slight shade in appropriate 3d areas.

LOL and why do you need all that hard disk space anyway? I have a 40gig hard drive and its twice as much as I use (at least).

I was wondering.. are you doing your skins with a computer pen? man I wish I had one of those.

as i said ealier, i have taken the hue thing into account and will be adding it later, but for now i just want the basis of the skin layed out :), i ogirionally set out to make a skin which further pushes the bounderies set by winamp2's skinning engine, and i have tried to the best of my abilities to blurr the bounderies set by the eq and main.bmp, which are always usually defined by a break, dark line or coloured band across the skin, though those skins can still look pretty decent, they also limit the design possibilities, what my aim was, was to create something thatlooks cool as well as functional, and hopefully, im doing it right :)

btw, methinks the skin love community deserve much credit for filling the db's with decent skins :)

I'd be shocked if this skin doesn't get into the top 10 d/led skins! It's coming along incredibly well.
I love the details you're putting in, are you doing them with your Wacom pad? The wings have immediately taken on a much more realistic feel now that you've shaded them like that.

i know, at the moment its a bit hard to work on it jon, i had a major crash on my laptop, what i was using to design the chroma skin, and most of the stuff for chroma got wasted, as soon as ive finnished solar storm, im going to start work on it again, i promise you! :)

One thing though... When displying just the main piece, it's bottom kinda sucks... There's some black line in the left and right sides, dunno if you've noticed it...

I see you've got black as a background to anti-alias against. I thought I'd just share this with you: I spent a while testing out different background colours, and I found that something around 140,120,110 (If I remember correctly, it's a dim brown) works with most colours.

yeah, i'd love to be able to define edges as inverse alpha (in thory you could do that with winamp 3 and have soft edgges, just like the shine on the screens people use, but nobody has even tried it yet ?!?! :(

It's been tried, but it doesn't work :( soft edges through semitransparent alpha layer masks...only works inside the player's window, not along the outside edges. I believ it's a windows issue.

As for the skin, it looks good, but it's just not my style, I prefer more functional skins :)

I love it...the only thing that I would suggest is to make the "open" button on the Main.bmp like all the other buttons, ie, the symbol on the same row as the other symbols and the button above it.

Could I also make a request to have 2 transperency options...personally I'm not a big fan of having the inner parts of the skin transperent, perhaps you could have a second tranperent option that just makes around the outside transperent...what are your thoughts?

VERY realistic, I love the rust. I kinda agree with Kiwi on the open button, but not a major issue, This is by far your best work yet.
And you've done some pretty fabulous skins.
My only real complaint would be the name. It just doesn't look like a solar anything to me. Although a "storm" would explain the rust :D

I'm wondering a bit if all the transparency is really necessary. The skin Paranoia that I saw on 1001 and DeviantART put this concept into sharp relief, as it was a highly transparent skin, but IMHO looked better on the rather amazing background he had it on for the screenshot.

Don't get me wrong, this is one kick-ass skin. I'm just a bit allergic to the unavoidable jaggies you get with WA2 region transparency.

1), select the item you want to 'rust', (the area only, that you want the rust effect to appear on), download this (http://www.carbon20.com/naoneo/wareHouse.jpg) texture, and load it, copy the whole thing to clipboard, close that image, now in your skin, paste the texture, change the blend mode to darken or multiply, really anything you feel looks right, then, using a dark brownish red colour, find the little kinks and notches in your skin where rust would appear if it were real, start making drips, as if almost like slime from the notches, yet bearing in mind where water would flow if it were real, then, using a black colour, emphesisze the rusty marks by darknening the tops.

not much else to it then that, oh, and dont go to overboard on the brownish colour or it will look like dripping paint

Thats the condensed version. The long version is I got my first online account (Forever already being taken) Forever990, then I got a stalker (inside joke), so I changed it to Forever660, then I lost my account, so I "borrowed" aol accounts and went through a billion screen names with Forever and 3 letter word combinations after it (since AoL didn't allow 16 letters back then, only 10). I don't know how hard Lucid and Peace were looking. I totally missed the bugs, except for the one I mentioned.

I loaded up the minibrowser and the vis just on principal, but I never use them anyway.

[edit] Ok now that I'm playing with the fixed up version, I can see the things you fixed. I personally think you should ditch the PList controls for aesthetic purposes, or maybe make them look more like the ones upstairs, or maybe just make them those little lights (even if you can't animate). Get rid of them altogether or at the very very least, match them with the Windowshade ones. I'm not fond of them at all in particular but you could mke them sit up a few pixels. They don't have to be exact if you feel they should stay. I do like the addition of the vis window on the playlist, though I never use that either. I could've lived without it.

I still say its amazing. My imagination can not touch this skin. Therefore I could never create such a thing. You have my jealousy :D and my respect :)
