calling all skinners!!!! this time its real!!!!

thats it! im starting my skining voyage,
but i have some problems.

ill start explaining:

i wanted to modify the default skin as a start,
so ive painted the background
and saved it
i left it (the skin) as a zip file and started winamp

but it didnt showed up!!!

whats wrong and how can i fix it?

Why don't you try around like me...
Rip apart the default skin (make sure you have a backup)

For the freeform, just make a form which looks cool, save it as your background file (in the default it is player/player-background.png if im right) and reload winamp, if it's bigger or smaller delete studio.xnf and reload it :)

I'm sorry Kingo' mountain... I don't like emails, you wanna know why? I've got a junk mail folder of 50 mails a day which i need to sort out my emails :( and a normal folder of 4 mails a day :)

another problem that i have with skining:

how do i make the blank space around my skin as 'null'
(or not visible in simple)? i have my skin sketch though

You need image editing software that can save your pic as a .png with a transparent background, like Photoshop.

Not sure about 5, but in 6 you can either "save for web..." (from the File menu I think), or under the help menu, there is a wizard the can walk you through saving a transparent image. Also, I'd do a search for "saving png" and look for threads in Winamp3...The Discussion or Skin/Scripting.

I use the help menu, because it works for me. But the more advanced skinners use different methods. Just find one that works for you :).

I never finished my "Rings" skin, because I got sidetracked, and then I wasn't up to date with Winamp versions, so I take no offence at not being included in your skinners group, but I promise to finish the skin someday :). Maybe on the same day the WA3 team releases Winamp3 final ;)

:) Gonzo is one of my favorites, too. But he wasn't exactly why I chose the name Gonzotek. When I was thinking about online personas I was also avidly reading a lot of Hunter S. Thompson, the creator of Gonzo Journalism, and author of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". When they turned avatars on in here, I first made a really crappy rip of the mozilla icon (little gecko). But I wasn't happy, so I hunted around until I found a nice little pic of Gonzo in his superhero outfit (anybody remember what he called himself, because I don't?).


ANYWAYS,

Download the simple skin from http://www.winamp.com/download/wasabi/skins.jhtml (last one)

and use that too see how buttons are defined/placed. I'm hurrying, because I have to go to an appointment, but if you're still having trouble reply again, and I'll take some time out tonight to help you out.
