Is it still a .psd file or already a skin?
danbee

it's not a skin yet. i only knocked it up last nite! i wanna improve the buttons a bit, i don't think they gel right with the rest of the skin.

yeah, that's what i'd thought of doing, both with the buttons and the volume controller. i should get chance to work on it tonite.
any other thoughts or opinions will be very appreciated. :)

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/danbee/images/bluecog2.gif
and png format for those that like 24bit (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/danbee/images/bluecog2.png)
i think the buttons integrate better with the rest of the skin now and i've added a subtle glass effect to the display area. got no idea what to do with the eq yet, i never thought about it cos i never use it :D
what do you guys think now?

i'd suggest making the skin and all the bevels look a bit 'deeper', however. you might also want to consider making a version with less of a complex outer shape, for those of us who like more compact skins. i love the shape, tho, and i hope you make the final version gray - so we can color it to our own content with gamma controls.

I think it looks pretty good (built in shape or no.)
I agree with molotov on making the bevels deeper, but I say keep the shape and the size (whiners can use the scale feature to make it smaller ;))
As for the eq, maybe a smaller gear that snaps into the main window so it looks like, well, two gears.

snap points would be real helpful with that. I like the eq being a "gear" idea. Nice work so far:).

ok, i've managed to make a first skin. it's far from finished, the eq is not done, the volume control is missing and so are the crossfade, shuffle and repeat buttons.
get it here -> http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/danbee/skins/bluecog.wal
molotov - i see where you are coming from with the grey thing, unfortunately being my first skin all the gamma groups are a bit mixed up right now. i will make a grey version though, but for now i like the blue :D . the winshade mode will be a smaller less complex shape
jpeg7383 - the small gear thing, yes! i'd already thought of it, and psp7 even has a built in shape that would do the job nicely ;)
just need a name...

Very nice indeed, I suppose I should get back to work on my skin, before there are too many to get mine noticed :).
I've gotten very familiar with the xml, if you need any help on that front. Someone else will have to help you with scripting, tho, cause I know F***all about that :(.

Hey you might be in luck. Check "Winique" for the code and such ur looking for. :) The vol knob script is by RT and is called: "volume.m" in the scripts folder.
How this for a skin name? "Sprokets"

Take a look at the rotation lib bundled with Winamp, you probably don't need an animation.

how would that deal with the shadows and highlights on the volume knob?

Just like we did with Probe, there's a layer with shadows and highlights stuff over the volume knob that doesn't rotate, as simple as that. You could also put some beautiful naked women over the knob to hide the lack of effects, but I think that the first solution will do just fine ;)

yeah, i dicsected probe and worked that out. the problem with mine though is that it's not circular. the animation png is only 5 frames long so i think i'll probly go down that route.
