View Full Version : Idea for a skin

ok well I've started making this skin today. Here's it is:

And here's the winshade:
http://dbzau.nwsoft.net/skinws.jpg
I might re-do the bg circle, it looks all fuzzy and crap around the edges...
Any other suggestions?
The vis goes in next to the sliders. In the big empty space I might put the EQ switchable with the AVS or something. I wanted playlist in there but it just isn't big enough...
The yellow glowy stuff is when the buttons are being pressed/enabled etc... but they overlap (thats why i put them all on in this pic). Is this a problem?
Can I have just one png with the yellow glow and put it behind the button it needs to be behind? or do i need to make 2 states for both buttons?

I actually think it was cooler before you sharpened up the edges. I don't really know if this blur effect would really work in real life...I know you couldn't do it in the current Beta. Just wanted to put in my two cents. Nice job though, very creative. :)

I don't have a that much of a problem with big skins, I can always scale them down. It's scaling up the little skins that bugs me....the jaggies get bad after 250% or so. But...variety is the spice of life.
Nice work, btw. I like the icons you chose. Will you make then center avs/eq circular or square (or something else? ) ?

know where to start. if anyone wants to take this up feel free to do
so.

ok well the original circle had a white ring around the edges, because of the fuzz. The second one, was crap. I did it again, with some extra crap. i'll post the pic again now:

jon - i'm not gonna resize it. i'm on 1152x864. I like the size :D want it smaller, use the windowshade. btw, i made the WS mode redder, it was more orange before :D
if i can make the avs in the middle a half-circle, i will.
If i can't, then square it is. :D
I might make some sort of panel over it so it slides in if there's nothing there... and when you enable EQ/AVS it slides up like a garage door kinda thing...
please, someone tell me if this is getting too impossible... lol
i'll need someone's help with the scripting too...

I'm not scripter (yet -- winter break is my chosen time to learn maki), so I can't help you there. But a half-circle should be doable, download Winique from lunarboy1's site: http://www.angelfire.com/yt3/lunarboy1/
That should be a good enought example of how to shape AVS for you to do yours. Hopefully  :)

You can do the blend effect in beta 2 (see: alpha blending w/ the desktop :D ).

Will that work in windows 98/me too or just windows 2000/xp?

OK well I have the main window working. Now i need to work out how to put the panel on over the EQ... and have the EQ and AVS switchable... hmm...
I'll need someone to help me with the XML/Scripting here... lol
here's an updated shot of the skin in action

thanks... the buttons were the easiest part to do, took me like 5 min lol :D
the volume/eq slider button things look crap, I'm gonna change 'em later on...
the WS mode is actually just the default skin main window and eq in ws mode, stacked... lol... but yes, it will be cool :P
i'm thinking about actually rounding the edges or something, make it a weird egg shape kinda... i dunno
I still don't have all the main window right, i need the close/ws/minimize buttons yet...

LOL damn I didn't think the panel thing would be so hard! I got the EQ button to turn off the panel but then it renders the crossfade, shuffle and repeat buttons useless until you press eq again and turn on the panel... i used 2 layouts in player-normal.xml
at the moment its a button that toggles EQ :O

Thanks Wasabi. You just made my job a lot easier. I needed those errors. I really did.

ok fixed ;)
uh well I've got the EQ behind the panel now, but since i used 2 layouts (like as if i had one as the windowshade) when you scale one, the other doesnt scale with it...
if someone could help me make a *real* drawer, i'd be really grateful... :D

Does anyone remember this skin? Is it worth my effort remaking it? I lost it all but I could do it better now, I reckon...
