A couple of new presets from me but nothing like the quality of what Unchained has done recently........but then again mine are only a couple of lines long. :)

Well that is my excuse and I am sticking to it. :p

Maybe it is me or my new 1.0 but please tell me that Bytes is only going on on the far right side of the screen and the rest is pretty much still, but different each time I see it. I hope this is not the bug I see every now and then. SM

Err Bytes the waveform is far right of the screen but it effect does through the other side from right to left in small 'bits'. The calmer the music the bigger the 'bits' with loud & busy music small 'bits' Actually pretty basic and nothing that special you may need to up the mesh/texture/res to get the desired effect.

Errr not expalined very well so here is a pic.

Hope that makes sense. But if it is doing that screwed up preset thing again we can rule out it is only user defined variables in the presets causing problems as there are none in this

I get something like your screen shot but on the left it is still and does not move, am I correct to say that you say it moves? SM

StudioMusic

Well I reinstalled version G again and found out there is a bug in 1.0 and it does move in G so I think that I am going back to G until Ryan fixes this problem. I tried everything to get your preset bytes to work right in 1.0 and could not. Does anyone else have this problem? I wish this was not happening because I love the speed and the transitions from preset to preset in 1.0 but if some of the presets and it is very few don't work right I will not be happy. I am not sure what to do stick with 1.0 and take out the preset that don't work right or go back to g which I was very happy with until 1.0 anyway. Any suggestions? SM

Rovastar disregard my last post. It is not working right in G either, now nothing on the left just black. No offense but why did you even make this preset and give me all these problems. Will this is really strange but I guess this preset has to go. Sorry Rova but something is not right here. Back to 1.0. By the way I tried some others that have had problems in the past like dynamic borders and such and they are all working just fine. I am not sure what is wrong here. SM

SM the image moves quickly (both bits and bytes are similiar) so I do not understand what is happening on your system. The preset is really small so hopefully if there is a problem with it it is easier to track and then correct.

Does anyone else have any problems with these presets?

Rovastar,

I get the same problem as SM with the presets, they both seem too "big" for the screen, "bits" seems to sit in the bottom right hand corner, while "bytes" seems to sit on the RH side of the screen.

I'm using v1.0 at the moment, not sure if that's the problem.. but thought I'd let you know..

to fix bits, edit the per_frame equation that deals with wave_y.
at the end, it says +0.2. Change it to 0.3 or so - moves the wave form closer to the center.
Personally, I like bytes better - I'll be keeping that one.

Thanks for the feedback people.

Krash the problem if you move the waveform too near the center is the 'through the screen' effect does not come into play so much.

But it is diffcult to get the mixture correct as different recordings of the music as well as different styles of music have different effects on the bass, etc variables for a preset like this.

But your comments taken on board.

Rovastar

PS Krash "Personally, I like bytes better - I'll be keeping that one." Dees that mean you don't keep ALL the presets posted here......

Hell no man, I have at least 400 as it is. If they suck, I axe 'em. :) (Including my own)

StudioMusic

I have kept them all except for about 2 but I think there is about three more I will get rid of. SM

Dees that mean you don't keep ALL the presets posted here......

Correct - I'm not a big fan of the preset rating system, so I just choose the presets I like - often I'll tweak them a little and then keep that. I've got a vast majority of Zylot's, for example, but I haven't kept very many of Unchained's big ones - they just don't appeal.

I've got 352 presets (including the ones that come with milkdrop) - any idea how many have been posted?

Krash I have 517 preset and I put my 3D and inverted all in the same folder, I have not kept about 5, and I think I have almost all that were ever posted, but I have two folder's one with about 470 of my favorites, so I normally use this folder when relaxing and enjoying milkdrop. My guess is there is a total of at least 525 presets out there including the ones that come with MD. PS did you keep the variation of mine you called apple? And did you keep Deviated boxes? the only one of yours I did not keep was bouncing ball, never got it to work the way I wanted. SM

Bah! Hey Krash, would you like me to do a mod of bouncing ball that "works" for the people that just don't get it? :P

Illusion
12th November 2001, 10:26
Hey, SM, do you reckon you could post a zip with all of the presets that you have, I'm sure I've missed some. Even if you just do a simple zip of your entire MD folder, that would be fine...

If you could do that, it would be much appreciated!

Illusion

Just noticed you can't post more than a 100K file at a time, which is going to make it difficult to post 500 presets at once. Maybe splitting them up or putting it on your own site or something (like Rovastar does) might be a way of getting around this...

And yes, unchained, if you would do a mod of bouncing ball for us lowly newbies it would be appreciated ;)

StudioMusic

Illusion I only have 505 presets now because I deleted a few more, and had to break it into 6 zips because of the file size limitations here. SM

Yeah, go ahead and fiddle with it if you like.
Make sure you put in the modification that allows two different bouncing ball presets to blend together (it's in the thread "the problem with my (and other people's) balls")

I've still got apple, but not in the main directory - I keep it just for the code.
I don't have deviated boxes - I probably looked at it at some time - I can't remember

Thanks for the offer anyway Rovastar, and Krash did you keep any of mine? Forgot to mention Illusion that these do not have the authors names on them if you want to know one ask around, I know alot of them just by memory and have some stored on cd that have the names too. SM

I kept When you Pass Me by - I considered most of the others as learning experiences.

Illusion

I keep all the really good presets - that is, the presets that look excellent in my main folder.. I have 133 there. There's another folder for the ones which look OK, but have some small problem which means they're not quite as great (ie. too dark in 16-bit, poor framerate etc.), which has 97.

The other 300 or so aren't really worth worrying about IMHO, but as I said, I'm very fussy :)

Have you kept any of mine Krash? The only ones I really like of mine so far are perfect rotation, tunnel morph & rainbow cycles, the rest weren't that great... but I wouldn't expect many of them to be kept by other people who don't keep all the presets.

Krash
13th November 2001, 10:41
I kept Crayak's diagonal, actually - It's simplicity appealed to me at the time. Most of your others I decided were enough like other presets I had that I didn't keep them. If I looked again, I might change my mind, but I can't remember most of the ones I reject.

- Krash

Rovastar
13th November 2001, 11:16
Krash - I hard man to please ;) At least you kept some of mine :)

Illusion
13th November 2001, 12:12
Fair enough, actually, I thought Crayak's Diagonal was very basic... but oh well... and most of mine are only mods of other presets.. so you can't really expect anything too new :) And hey, with Krash, 1 out of 10 ain't bad.. haha
