I wanted to learn XML, so I got my feet wet with my Gangsta Locale, now I'm ready to move on. I never made a skin for the old winamps, but I'm interested with how powerful the new version is. My first skin is this:

I want to animate it so that when a song is playing, the record is spinning. When it pauses, the needle kind of pulls up. When it stops the needle handle goes back to a resting position. I want to stuff all the Thinger Items in "drawers" under the record player, hence the four handles. The knob there is for volume. The only thing left is for a logo and maybe buttons for the major functions on the lower left. It's looking pretty empty there.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this so in case anyone has anything to add, they can voice it. Also, if some veteran here can tell me if the above animations are feasible are not? I don't see why not, but then again, that's why I'm a newbie! :)

it'd be interesting to see if you could actually use the arm as the play control - click and drag it to start and stop.

just amusing myself here. :)

That is part of the plan. :)

I was also thinking of having the record logo switch with each song. Use random winamp ones by default, or have user defined images for each song. I figure with it being XML now, a lot of the indie labels will use mp3s to entice you to come to their site, offer you pics, lyrics, etc. I'd like to develop something to take advantage of that sort of stuff.

In the far, far, faarrrrr future, I'm thinking of making a full on jukebox with records that switch after each song, browsable catalog, etc. Of course, cross-fade would have to be disabled. Either that or it would have to be a dual-turntable juke box. Baby steps though, baby steps. :D
