Even better beat detection (gotten rid of almost all of the random jumping), better (I hope) color scheme. Very slight performance drop.

Lemme know...hopefully I'm improving this instead of making it worse :)

Gah, now it's taking too long to find the beat. Oh well...it's getting there. :)

I really like this effect - see if you can get some better detection in there though - it's still jumping around a bit...

Can you give me any more specific hints as to where you think it's going wrong? Specific songs, or types of transitions? Treb still too sensitive? Any clues whatsoever might help me tune it.

As you said, BPM detection schemes never work quite right, but what I'm doing goes a little bit deeper than that, in that it doesn't even attempt to be predictive. (Trying to use predictive algorithms like geiss or AVS in beat detections seems like a dead-end road to me...I can't see why anybody would think it would work in the first place.)

I'm using a self-modifying heuristic pattern search, somewhat like what we used to use in virus detection software (haven't worked in that field since I was 16 or so though...god only knows what they're doing these days). I guess it's what they'd call a "genetic" or "evolutionary" method these days. At any rate, I'm walking a fine line...trying to teach the computer to appreciate Bach rather than just telling it "Bach's the good stuff, trust me." As you'd expect, it tends to reflect my own musical tastes and the types of patterns that I hone in on, but I'd like to do everything in my power to make it more generic so any comments are appreciated.

Maybe some one can tell me what is wrong. I really like this preset, but ever sinse I have installed it, after it plays many of the other presets do not work right, even with a shutdown and restart. Please someone tell me if they have this problem or is it just me? play this one then try to play this time with feeling or deviated boxes and neither will work right, there is more but this is enough for a start. Yeah, same problem with this one as SM (see the thread "Observation (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=393433#post393433))"

This one is back in my folder with the new beta everything is fine now, you make most of my favorite presets, so now I think you can let go till your heart is and content and I can play each and every one without a problem. SM

Yeah, I used a lot of user variables in making these. Even in the process of making them, I'd often hit the limit and have to restart milkdrop.
