I need the proxy server to access the internet from my PC over a LAN. And I can't manage to get WinMX to connect, and I really can't figure out why.

I figured out why WinMX wouldn't connect (if anyone cares :D)
It was because the stupid thing couldn't resolve the names to IP addresses from inside the firewall, so I did it manually and it works lovely now.

c2r, I care.
My dad is now running a proxy (microsoft isa server) over our home network. Exactly what needs to be done to get internet applications (such as morpheus to work)
Is it just a matter of opening up the right ports? Does my dad need to configure connection to other Ip's? are there any weird thing you need to do to get thing to work?

Have none of you ever heard of Audio Galaxy (http://www.audiogalaxy.com)?

I have heard of it, and am a regular user of it. The only thing that I use more is heroin.

I've got a 486 PC which I'm using as my proxy server. It's running Windows NT4, and the Jana Proxy Server software.
Its IP address is 10.0.0.1, my PC has 10.0.0.2
In the proxy server settings there will be those for different ports - proxy and socks are the most important (and pop3 & smtp if you are wanting to download emails into an offline email reader).
There are others, such as news, time-server etc. and also http server and ftp server (which are not to be confused with the actual proxy server)
Set up the ports (on the server) as following:
Proxy Server: 8080
SOCKS: 1080
Then in Morpheus go Tools -> Options -> Firewall, and choose "Use SOCKS5 Proxy Server". The host in the above case is 10.0.0.1 and the port is 1080.
Note that in IE you will need to set up proxies in that too - choose 8080 for your http proxy, and 1080 for the socks one.
Hope this is understandable....

Besides that Kazaa is being sued and has spyware in it and Morpheus 2.0 will have a link with the Nutella network, they kinda look the same yes.. I heard the new Kazaa one has a Shop button though?

c2r, that seems to make sence. What about the programs that have no configuration for SOCKS or http proxy's. Somebody sudjested sockscap (redirects all windows tcp and udp traffic to a socks protocol) to be the best solution for that case. Sockscap doesn't work with all programs though. So is there something like sockscap that will work with no programs?

I downloaded Morpheus about a month ago and had to perform the Kazaa registry hack in order to download anything over 128kbps. But the majority of stuff on there is still 128 and of dubious quality IMHO.
I miss Napster so much:( I know it's time to move on but it's so hard...
