12th January 2002, 21:55
i have guiess plugin and it works fine. milkdrop worked fine on my nvidia geforce 2.. now i have a geforce3-ti200 and milkdrops is messin up in full screen. and well windowed but i dont care about windowed. you can see about the first 2 seconds of it scrolling (song title) and it leaves a trail behind it (not refreshing?)
i tried 16 and 32, and tried changing my windows color mode between 16 and 32 and no luck on anything.
i have the latest detonator drivers. windowsME os..tons of ram.
any help is appreciated because i REALLY love this plugin
ps-could it be my monitor by some remote chance? i have an old generic 15 inch

unlikely to be your monitor. Post your debug file. Turn on in config of MD and the file is in the root of c:\. m_deug.txt. and post here so we can have a look. if you can post screen shots of what is happening.

ok heres my debug files.. btw im in 16bit resolution in windows display settings. 800x600
i did the plugin and made two different debug files cause i did it in 16 bit one time and 32 the other time..
16 bit, 640 x 480resolution:
32 bit, 640 x 480resolution:
i dont know how to do a screen cap
13th January 2002, 17:08
Screen cap just press print screen button when running MD.
And paste it into mspaint or something.
Also what OS are you using. and what drivers defualt with the OS or the latest nvidia ones?
I will look at the debug files.
Does Ryan other plugin - Smoke give you any problems?
13th January 2002, 17:11
OK wrong version you are using the old 0.99g version of MilkDrop goto
www.geisswerks.com and download the latest and quicker and more stable 1.01.
That should help.
13th January 2002, 17:36
smoke works good in windowed mode. but not full screen, same type of problem.
have winME and latest detonator drivers by nvidia. geforce 3 ti200
ok where is the cap saved to ? i looked in plugin dir, winamp dir, root dir. what type of file is it too
http://www.aoism.com/mp3s/eddie/s_debug.txt is smoke debug for full screen
oh yea i got new version of milkdrop. same problems.

The print screen is stored in the clipboard Ctrl and V or Paste from the menu optons in mspaint. Save as a JPEG and post here.
I know that Gforce 3 cards do work with MilkDrop.
Try these. (Cut and pasted from another post)
Is plugin priority set to "normal" in Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins?
Is hardware acceleration set to "full" in:
System Control Panel -> Performance -> Graphics?
Installed any other software recently? Particularly anything which runs in real-time in the background?
Have you made sure there's no problems with DirectX installation?
Run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool:
start -> run -> dxdiag
Otherwise I am running out of ideas.

yea everything you said to do came back good.
i dont think my card bios is that old but im gonna try to flash a new one anyway.
i downloaded this video card benchmark test thing. called 3dmark2001 .. my results are horrible. in it. gf2 cards do better than mine. but in the tests, the graphics looked good on it. i dunno wat the deal is with this card.
13th January 2002, 21:28
i did a few things, and lowered hardware acceleration down a notch. still not working.
one thing i just noticed is when im running the plugin, at the bottom garbeled is things my monitor has seen in the past. like a few reboots ago i ran quake. well i noticed some small text frm one of the quake menus on it. like theres some kinda cache that its not clearing. well not clearing, and the plugin freezes right after the song title comes up.
this is a screen shot of it, but you cant see the garbled text at the bottom for whatever reason
it freezes and flickers on this screen

Ummh if your 3d mark results are worse than your Geforce 2 then you have some other major problems with your card. (make sure you are using the same versions of 3d mark when comparing)
Try some general harware support sites. www.sysopt.com, www.tomshardware.com, etc. These should point you in the right direction. Or look in google for 'geforce optimizing'
When the results stablize and MD is still a problem, post again.
14th January 2002, 01:41
well i meant my card is worse than other peoples gf2 on the comparison page. not MY geforce2. although i am considering throwing my old gf2mx back in my computer and seeing how the benchmark goes.
but i'll check out those sites

problem is fixed, milkdrop works.
after reading once or twice about how older versions of nvidia's detonator drivers work better for some people
so boom i removed nvidia drivers under add/remove programs extracted the files from driver exe file into a folder, rebooted, and when windows came up it asked me for a driver location and i browsed to where i put the drivers at. (all these details are for people that might want to do the same thing)
newest nvidia detonator drivers are 23.11 .. i downloaded and installed 21.81 available on www.nvidia.com (search for "21.81")
now im gonna run a few games and that benchmark program and see what i get.
edit: ok i ran the benchmark. all i have to say is holy fricken hell. it ran over 4x better. and only 1% lower than the normal for my card/processor. tests that were 2 or 3 images were now full smooth playing demos. jaw dropping. and stuff that was plan and ordinary demos now had all kinds of effects like lighting and stuff. all this from downgrading drivers. and best of all, milkdrop works :)

Just a comment - the latest RELEASED detonator drivers are 21.83
The driver you were running (23.whatever) is unreleased. It's still a beta, and was leaked to the public (they do this occasionally, because it's easier than hiring a hoard of testers). Unreleased drivers can't be expected to work properly.
You'll know for next time ;]
29th January 2002, 14:47
ok then why is version 23.11 on nvidia's official web page: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9x
its not leaked if its the only driver that pops up when you click drivers>win9x on the card maker's official web site.
btw 21.83 didnt work for me either only 21.81 for some reason.

Megagoo, you the man. Had the same problem (see last post) and 2181 fixed it.
1st February 2002, 12:53
awsome. well the best part is that not only will it make milkdrop work, but it'll increase the performance of your video card about 300 to 400%. at least it did in my situation.
if you have time to download a 38 meg file, go to www.madonion.com (i think thas the site) and get 3DMark2001. benchtesting program that plays some coo, demos, but tells you how your card compares to other people with your processor, to see if you're getting the most out of the card. and its recommended that you run it if you're overclocking your card, to make sure it doesnt lock up. thats how i found my overclocking limit.
check this out also www.geforcefaw.com (and read the overclocking section if your not comfortable with it)

Goo, I have 2000 and 2001 benchs and have run both on my rig, got 8300 in 2000 and 4200 in 2001. Didn't see much difference between the Nvidia driver versions, just the Winamp fix. Was your +400% between different 2001 runs. Other thing I did at 5:00 this morning (no life) was to remove the 9 caps responsible for poor 2D text on all Geforce cards (disable RF filter). Not much difference on my display, but I thought it was pretty good to begin with. Vendors must be using better components or have redesigned the filter. Anyway for 49 smackers this card (Geforce GTS-V) rocks, jacked the core to 200 Mhz and 333 Mhz on the memory (just like the big bother). Am installing some ram sinks next and going on up in freq.

hey. yea i got like a 1000 barely with 23.11 or whatever the current latest detonator driver is. after switching to 21.81 i noticed that my cursor was animated now finally, and milkdrop worked. then i ran 3dmark2001 and got like a 4500. after overclocking i think my highest was 4800 or so. i tried upgrading to 21.83 cause some dude i compared too with my same card and same processor was getting like an 8000 or something crazy, and he had those drivers. so i tried, but it was almost as bad as the 23.11. so my overclocking thing got reset. but it took me about 5 hours to get 21.81 back on it. when i tried to install 21.81 again, i kept getting an error message something about pci device didnt match something in an ini file. but i got it installed eventually
what you mean you removed 9 caps
1st February 2002, 17:57
That 8000 was probably in 2000, I got 8200 in it too. As for the caps what I mean is that the limiting factor on Geforce cards for 2D resolution is the 2 stage RF filter required by the FCC. This cuts off the high frequency and degrades the high video bandwidth capacity. People on the web figured that one could remove the RF filter by cutting the capacitors off and shorting the inductors. Details are here www.geocities.com/porotuner/imagequality.html. I did it to my Visiontek 5632 (Geforce GTS-V) with only minimal change, I think the vendors have raised the cut off frequency, in that, my 2D image quality was pretty good anyway. Not ATI good, but, OK. Unless your 2D is visably very bad, dont bother.
