I can successfully set my desktop to 1600x1200 with no flaws, but if i try to run milk drop at this resolution, the screen just goes black, I have a 19 inch proview monitor (old), with a geforce 3, running win xp.. 384 ram.. 1.2 ghz athlon... blah blah blah should work, why not

and yes i can run my desktop at 1600x1200 & 32 bit, and i try running milk drop at the same color bit rate..

the whole screen goes black and the green light starts flashing, as if the computer was off. also if i have my desktop running as 1600x1200 i can run milk drop in windowed mode, just not in full screen

Very likely that your refresh rate is too high in 1600x1200 (in 3D). Your monitor can´t handle that. Try to manually change it, maybe with an external tool.
In 2D your refresh rate is low enough for your crt...
