Well,I`m a big PC game addict...mainly because it is so easy to edit the games. But,I just got a PS2 and it blows any PC away any day. GTA for life!

PC is the most common video gaming platform for me but PS2 is real kickass platform althought I don't own it. If I have to choose a mobile gaming platform, the choise is TI-86. Cheap (free) games and good keyboard & display.

The PC gets my vote, though board games will never stop their uprise. I enjoy chess, Monopoly (of course)...and Scrabble, even thought I get consanants all the time. :igor:

I think that the PC is the best to play games on. Having said that, I tried the XBOX yesterday in Game, and it seemed pretty neat.

I hate the name 'Xbox'. Come on, MS - there are better names out there. I hate the way you always need the latest PC to play PC games; In 2001 you could still get new games for the 7-year-old Playstation. That's durability.

merlin: thats right. i still by ps1 games :)
i heard somewhere they might be dropping some of the prices for the greatest hits to 9.99 usd! right now they sell for 20$. imagine ps1 games being as cheap as nintendo games... ahhh.

Apparently you can get Driver (excellent game) for $10. It's £10 over here, so I can believe that.

Nah, I'm just messing with you, Crazy Dude did kind of screw up on this one. Game Cube is pretty cool.:D

You're missing SNES, which is the right awnser.

SNES is my second favorite. A lot of good games out for it. Back then, developers cared more about gameplay then graphics, which is the way it should be.

since when are dice a "video game platform"
and as far as the definition is concered, a PC is a PC game platform not a Video game platform. Gaming system would work or Game console to be more accurate for only video games but the poll is inacurate. Xbox is the best Video Game Platform. PC's take all their asses any day.

PS2.
Its the latest thing I got for a video game platform since they came out with SNES. And boy do graphics change my life forever than 16 bit graphics.:D

ps2 is 128bit right?
if you think thats something check out the xbox i hear its 32 bit! whoot whoot :)

i hate sony i hate microsoft i hate nintendo
sega has never done me wrong (except cd, 32x saturn and nomad. and maybe game gear)

11th February 2002, 00:18
You mean 256? You gotta be joking Whiteflip.
Memory goes in 8 and 16 bits. Usually 16 bits, like the N64 is 4 times faster than SNES.

Sega went bellyup when they were selling Dreamcasts. THey screwed themselves over.
Merlin
11th February 2002, 00:27
The playstation's existence is Nintendo's fault. Sony were developing a CD-system to attach to the SNES, but for some reason Nintendo canned the project (some business deal). Infuriated, Sony took the device and developed their own CD-only console. The rest is history.
Henry - As Atari, the 3DO group and Sega found out, having fewer hot-selling titles than your opposition is really costly.

Every Dreamcast Sega is selling now, they are losing 50 bucks. Also some of their games are great, and the system was swank, they didn't have many people interested in the machine enough to go and make a large profit, like what they expected would happen like PS One. At the time there was a console war going on, against the popular PS1, and N64. Sega thought that this would be a better chance to catch the wagon and take a chunk of the profits/competiton from Nintendo and Sony.

henry do you have a mental tumor? dream cast is the only console i can think of in history to make money off the console itself. every other one on debut lost money. Dream cast is great was great and will forever be great. Just with anoucments by sony microsoft (which i think bought out sega) and nintendo they decided to stop making dream cast.
and its 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024. 128 is possible.
and its not memory its architecture design which is cuppled with processor design and mhz and system architecture to determine system capablities. the bit part is the base number the system uses to do computations. some on help me out here...
is PS2 256 bit or 128 bit?
whiteflip
11th February 2002, 00:48
sega started off great in 98 in japan silently. the system was designed great and games were designed great but it wasn't marketed as well as n64 or ps1. it came at the wrong time too. the period of time in between console generations, thats the worst time to release a system. a lot of the systems sales do come from asthetic design though. i think anyway.

Are you kidding? A chessboard is the ultimate game "platform" in the most literal sense of the word. :)

uh, uh. Sega lost because their Dreamcast was a flop. Sony, and Microsoft are churning a profit, and not losing a dime over their consoles/games. I know it costs millions to develop a console that works, and fine tuning every game for the console. They invest in a great idea, hoping they can have a return profit. That idea was great, but profits bled through.

the reason i liked the Dreamcast was solely because of Soul Calibur.... love games with weapons that aren't guns.

I'd have to say the PC, not only for it's great online multiplayer gaes like UT, Quake 3, and RTCW, but it also plays almost all of the other great video game systems via emulation. :)

Where's the option for the original NES system? ;)
whiteflip
11th February 2002, 05:28
it cost 330 dollars per xbox made and distributed. it sells for 299. thats a loss for each console sold
it cost 100 dollars to make a dream cast.
it sold for 200
it made money
the n64 was a flop.
the dream cast got developers it got people thinking and it inovated and it made a profit. the n64 lost money it lost developers it was a failure for the company. playstation 2 im supprised hasn't lost developers. it saddens me.
you will find that the Dream Cast community is more adiment about its console than the playstation community. this will go on until you admit that the dream cast wasn't a failure. but you dont have to. i know it wasnt and i have proof. ive played a game on it
(ive also played ps1 and ps2 and i was disapointed by both)

i don't have issues with systems, just the games. I've seen games for the new systems (cept the xbox) and, really, games for the NES were just as entertaining. The problem with all of this is that gameplay (generally) is being sacrificed for merely making something look pretty. There are of course exceptions to all of these (soul calibur, like i said before, was awesome and pretty), but... eh, i think it's the games that determined it, and i don't recall that many good games for the dreamcast, but there are several for the ps2, and were plenty for ps1, etc.
henry3k56
11th February 2002, 22:40
Dreamcast died! They can't do anymore, PS1 and N64 took away their customers. PS2 is working out perfectly, I haven't had a problem with Sony at all. Xbox is a total screw up, like MS's OS systems. I compare the Xbox to Windows98. They both were quickly devloped, not tested throughly, and crash very often, none the less very well.
Oh well, I'll quit argueing my point, and agree with you because the Dreamcast was pretty good, game/graphic wise, and looked better organized in making games that are pretty good.

There is one game for Nintendo GameCube that is going to really tip the table in their favour against Sony, and it's all thanks to Sega:
Phantasy Star Online. It's going to use the NGC's modem, of course. but I have no idea when it'll be releaeed, since Nintendo hasn't even set up a network yet.
Merlin
12th February 2002, 15:22
I'll take your word for that, and in the mean time carry on playing Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto, or maybe Gran Turismo. Perhaps the FIFA and madden series deserve a little time. Driver? Oh, I have to wait for Driver 3.
whiteflip

take the number of shity ps1 games divide it by the number of total ps1 games and im sure that its far greater than the same percentage in dreamcasts arsenal. now do that for n64 and ps2 and all those and the lowest precentage equals console with best games
graphicly i think halo and max payne are nice. gta is stunning and gt3 great game play. project gotham is graphically pleasing and ,,, unique... its darwinsism for video games, games that look better and play well get bought. doa3 gets shelfed. there is no sacrafice in graphics over game play. a lot of nes games suck ass. a lot.

the ratio of shitty games to good games is better with dc. but who cares. ps1 has WAYYYY more great games than dc. dc died. and the ps2 is sold at a loss, or at minimal profit, too. they rely on game lisencing to bring in the bucks. ok, i am going to stop typiong, becaus eif ti dont ill go on for a loong time. ps2 kics ass.
whiteflip
15th February 2002, 02:42
my guess is at this time ps2 makes a marginal profit. xbox is losing money though. i dunno about the gaycube,, oops game cube. and everyone knows its about liscensing

grr, i'm really starting to have a problem with gay being thrown around as an insult...
Merlin
15th February 2002, 13:53
Tell me about it. It's so immature - kids were using it as an insult at primary school (English kids go to Primary school until they're 11) when I was a kid. I hardly heard it at all after that.
