View Full Version : Energy Star & Vis plugins

So that you know, why I am requesting this be looked into... I don't have a screensaver, because I think they are pointless. But I do use the Energy Star set-up to turn off my monitor after 15 mins of inactivity. Well this is annoying when I want to run a VIS plugin and watch it for a while. So I thought about asking some of the plugin authors to include this, but I figured it would be easier to have it as a feature in :winamp:winamp:winamp: to cover all vis plugins. Could there be an option in a future release of Winamp to disable energy star settings when running a vis plugin??? Or is there a plugin that will do it now? I could not find anything about this in the forums or as a plugin. There might not be as many people that would like this as I think, but I believe there is a potential need for this, so show your support if you like the idea. Or your comments even if you don't. If it is not feasible, please explain why.

why not just kick your mouse after 14 minutes so that your monitor stays on?

Well I know that this example is worthless, because you could turn it off, but to prove my point, if it was running for a party would you stand there and hit it every 14 mins??? My problem is I like to turn on the vis plugin and chill, lay in the bed and watch it, since my computer is in my room. But it wouldn't be reasonable to get up every 14 mins to hit the mouse (or throw something at it for those who were thinking of that).:p Okay, but then I can still turn the energy star settings off right? But what if I forget to turn it back on then I walk away and it stays on the desktop or something. I'm not worried about screen "burn in" as much as energy consumption. I just think it would be a useful feature and if I could code it, I would... but I don't have enough programming knowledge yet to do that.
Therefore, I think if a lot of people have their monitors setup like this to turn off instead of show some stupid screen saver, it would be a useful feature to implement.

I agree, this would be a usefull addition, also for those of us that do run screen savers, winamp should disable those too for the time being.. i too run vis plugin's for a long period of time, usually only fri-sat night (hehe), and i hate to have to remember to turn on/off my screensaver in a drunken state.. ;)
