What is the error message?

Yes, the exact error message will certainly help us to help you more easily.

Click the "details" button in the error message window and tell us what it says, eg. Winamp has caused an error in module kernel32.dll, etc etc.

Also, some more sys specs might also help, eg. PC Manufacturer, CPU, motherboard/chipset, RAM, videocard, DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp) version (start -> run -> dxdiag)

We could also do with knowing whether you've installed ANY extra 3rd-party plugins for Winamp, and if so, which ones?

In the meantime, check these:

So . . . did you actually read any of those links I provided above?

btw, does the error message say
"WINAMP caused an error in module JSCRIPT.DLL..."?
Or did something else cause it?
(Your error message above is incomplete)

And when I asked you to provide a list of all 3rd-party plugins....

What do you mean by when you "do a playlist in a program like mirc"?
Have you installed an mirc plugin, eg. gen_mircex.dll

Also from: The Official 3rd-party Plugin Buglist (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=58884) (please read!)

Problems with mIRC Ex plugin:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=45626
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=54431

And did you make sure gen_nomad.dll (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=49692) hasn't reared it's ugly head?
(buggy 3rd-party plugin silently installed by Creative SBLive/PlayCenter)

btw, DirectX 8.0 is very buggy as well.
You should upgrade to at least v8.0a (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=27741) if not the latest v8.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp)

Although I doubt if DirectX is the cause of this error.
Does it happen if you use one of the default Output plugins (DirectSound or WaveOut) because the SqrSoft ACF plugin has also been known to cause problems.

Preferably try one of the updated default Output Plugins from Wa2Update (http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/wa2update.exe)

PP's replacement Crossfading DirectSound Output (http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/out_evil.zip)
PP's experimental DirectSound Output (http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/out_ds2.zip)
PP's replacement WaveOut Plugin (http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/out_wave.zip)

Anyway, more than likely, the problem is being caused by one of your General Purpose plugins (gen_*.dll), probably gen_mircex.dll, or one of the other ones you didn't tell us about. Please read all the links I've provided (both in this post AND the first one)

That is all!
