Song change notification to ext. app?

Hallo,
I'm writing extern. application which 'll visualise winamp playlist and current entry has to be highlighted - therefore i need to be notified about it. Is there any way to hook such event from extern application or only to periodicaly check current entry by SendMessage (..., ...,Amp_Msg_GETLISTPOS)?

I've heard somewhere that the api calls back to your dll, but I wrote a dll and never got diddly, so I'm thinking you'll just have to check, and if your curious, you have a bit of time, like 50 msecs from the time of the song change till it plays, so you have that much leeway to change your list and it will seem fairly instant.

sorry to reactivate this thread, but i would need some sample code for visual basic that calls my dll if a track-change occurs.

may somebody help me? :)
