hi! got this in the door this morning, a postcard that everybody in Ireland got. it is about sellafeild nuclear power station in the U.K, since the september 11th the irish government has being trying to close down sellafeid for fear of a simaller attack on it, and should be allowed to send their own inspectors along to view the facillitys but that is not the case, so here i am looking for your views on the postcard below..

It might just make them change the name again.

They could call it 'Sunnydale' this time, that ought to make it safer.

andrew- the chances of another chernobyl are nil. There were major design flaws in that plant, that made what should have been just a bad accident into something much greater.

at that plant, the top of the main containment building was blown off, and in this explosion, a great deal of radioactive material was also blown into the sky. That cant happen, the whole bubble of hydrogen that caused that has been eliminated. I won't happen.

Modern Plant design is way way beyond what they had there, and every plant world wide has these features, (well with perhaps the exception of some really old russian plants) this includes the one metioned on the postcard.

People talk about poluting the environment, then why they hell do they prefer coal fired plants, to clean enviromentaly friendly nuclear power?

Wrong thread?

Anywho, as Hollow Earth said, another Chernobyl won't happen. That was a flaw in Soviet-built reactors that just doesn't occur in western-built reactors.

Yes true. I agree with this. I also think that using nuclear energy is a sensible and is the way forward!

I work for one of the largest Nuclear corporations in the world (BEGL) and it is run by a bunch of (0C|< 5u(|<1|\|G 455 M0|\||<3Y5 ! I wouldn't be surprised if we were all glowing green within the next twenty years !

Yes, shut down Sellafield. Yes, let's turn off 25 per cent of the country's power supply. That sounds like a good idea.

Anyway, that has as much chance of affecting anything as Leicester have of staying in the Premiership.

Our government, although not (0C|< 5u(|<1|\|G 455 M0|\||<3Y5, are more interested in lining their own pockets than actually building cleaner power stations to replace Sellafield. Their budget "5u><0rz"; where does all our tax go?

The actual stations themselves are very safe, hardly any emissions at all. But the Energy market is going down the pan. In England British Energy makes a £200 million LOSS, EVERY YEAR !!!! But in America we make a huge profit, so it sort of balances.
