Does shoutcast ever plan on going back with letting us control the encoder? The LAME encoder has the worst sound and I prefer not to use it. I'm having to stick with the 1.80 to get a good sound. Unless there is a fix you can tell me about.
LAME really shines at high bitrates, at lower bitrates you are better off with Fraunhofer. I'm not sure if there are plans on going back to using an ACM codec... perhaps you should post your request in the wishlist (http://forums.winamp.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=141).

Ok I understand that. Is there something I may be missing? Is there a LAME install also beside the dsp install, like the Fraunhofer install? Or is the LAME just embeded into the DSP plugin?
With the installation of 1.8.2a or 1.8.2b it also places the encoder in the plugins directory (lamedll.dll). However I believe this dll is a modified version of the standard LAME dll because when I attempted to replace lamedll.dll with the current version of LAME it gave me an error. With that said, as far as I know there is no way to use any other encoder besides the modified version of LAME that ships with it in 1.8.2a or 1.8.2b.
