Hi all, I'm having a problem opening a .psd file in photoshop, it comes up with an error message saying something like "cannot open file because the scratch disks are full" The file is only around 20Mb and I have no other files open. I have no idea what to do, please help.

Go try it on someone elses machine
Go try open it in some other graphics app, PSP for example
Go try re-booting your machine
Go check for virsus that may be filling your spare memory with gunk
If all else fails you could always .....

It's not a special disk, it's the way photoshop names the disk where it writes the temporary information.
Scratch disk is like virtual memory.

I was just passing through on my way somewhere else,
and saw this.
Hope I'm not to late to help.
From Adobe Online Help:
"When your system does not have enough RAM to perform an operation,
Photoshop and ImageReady use a proprietary virtual memory technology,
also called scratch disks.
A scratch disk is any drive or a partition of a drive with free memory.
By default, Photoshop and ImageReady use the hard drive
that the operating system is installed on as its primary scratch disk."
To correct this error:
Scratch Disk is Full (http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/c1c6.htm).
(This is a question on the ACE exam)
Brought to you by your friendly
little Photoshop http://home.earthlink.net/~dewarjr/Wizard.gif Wizard.
Se ya later...
