oh wow! You've only been here since Jan 03, that means you've never seen a lot of Adil's (or nekos) work. Man you've missed out!

i know all of his works, they are really great. I was/is one of the most talented designer who have been here ever. But now he works for the factory and have no time to design any new skins for winamp. what a pitty.

I think moow and boom were the only ones that got coded tho. (and I have them both :p)

carlosp

no, there were some other skins started coding i guess. i have one or two more alphas from him. If a good coder is here who wants to finish his unfinished deisgns i can try to contac him and ask him if he gives his psds away to finish those skins even if they are very old school.

matt_69
26th August 2004, 09:40
old school or not they are better than most of the skins coming thru here at the moment. i may be able to help code them up now that i have some experience.

i guess he's not as dedicated to skinning compared to other things - in a good way...

matt_69

he works for tsf as i read which means he IS dedicated to skinning. pity he doesn't come round here n e more :(

My question is he even allowed back on these boards? I know he and neko got into quite a few spats and were both off an on banned.

Mr Jones
26th August 2004, 15:03
Does it say banned under his name?

No, therefore he isn't banned.

He had plenty of warning from myself about his spats with neko, and that was all resolved a long time ago, no need to drag it back up from the dead.

Neko is banned however.

Adil = not banned
neko = banned

thank god we have one of our best designers ever back. Even if he has no time for hobby stuff(i know what you mean dude :) )it is cool to have him here after that long time. Skins desgins and the way they are made change with the time like the mode. Your new skin looks pretty cool, as good as all you older works are. I would find it great if you would give your psds away and let them code, i mean we have boxter and K-Jofol here too, 100% old school Designs and concepts coded for now :D Maybe some new ideas+a good coder and we have a great new skin as good as our other old school skins are :D

too bad you started with sonique, winamp could look differently right from the alpha days :(

bah, sonique died again, the two new developers got sacked months ago....

I still think that AOL should buy rights to (or at least to use) the Mantis engine (esp. now that Sonique died again), give Sonique users a reason to switch over, plus allow skins to be made that can make up for the limitations of the Winamp Modern engine (and the other way around).

i agree...

It would be nice but i've worked with mantis for years. The only things i miss are blendmode support, reading images directly off a psd, and sonique's improved tweenfunctions. Other than that both do the same things. I also don't see why aol would fork out the money for mantis when they invested so much into developing their own xml language for winamp.

Oh and Adil...definately dig the new hottness! ;)

There was a component for Winamp3 that could read directly from the psd's, but it never got finished, probably due to Winamp3 beeing rushed out of the door..
As for blendmodes, Winamp has it, only not in the standardframe, which is a bit sad. Again, that problem would've been fixed eventually in Winamp3, but again, it was rushed, and nothing happened.
Now, there's no way AOL would invest money on Mantis, as they don't even invest money in further development on Wasabi. They sacked some of the lead developers of Wasabi for gods sake, and now the rest of the Wasabi developers have left aswell, as has most of the Winamp developers..
I'm sad to say it, but Winamp is starting to go the way of Sonique.
Sure, miracles happen, but I'm personally not counting on it.

Edit:
Oh, and on topic, Adil sweeeet work on your newest creation! :)

ARE YOU SERIOUS, plague? i really didn't expect this... i thought everything is going smoothly. you mean winamp has 0 developers now?

Adil
2nd September 2004, 12:29
that's not what he said kiilu, learn to read dude ;)

matt_69, what's shocking me more is the feedback that "thing" got.

Mr Jones
2nd September 2004, 13:07
No, he read it right, there are no Winamp developers left.

Justin left months ago, around the time 5.00 went live
Brennan & Aus got laid off.
Francis, Christophe and mig left sometime around 5.04

So that's pretty much the core developers of Winamp gone.

There are a couple of code type people left at Nullsoft, but they are more SHOUTCast orientated rather than Winamp GUI, there are one or two project dev managers left who put together the builds and what not, but again , not GUI developers.

Don't be holding your breath for any new major versions for a while, it's not called Winamp 5.05 The Final Edition (check the credits screen) for nothing you know.

ampewin
2nd September 2004, 14:18
I am very happy with 5.05 so there's is no problem I guess that there won't be a new version any time soon (or ever). Besides I think that winamp2 upon which 5 is built can't offer anything more (eg unicode support) and the only way that functionality can be added is through plugins. Fortunately there are many plugin creators :)

who gives a damn about it anyway, I was already happy with 2.9
