Well, I follow every law, including the speed limit, most of the time. Sometimes I just can't get in a law-abiding mood, though, know what I'm saying? Maybe I'm just a freak...:igor:

sometimes it's just dangerous to obey the speed limit. If you're on a highway where everyone is driving like 10 or 20 kph faster than the speed limit, it's safer to go the speed of the crowd. Just don't be the fastest person there.

highway wolfpacks? where everyone believes if they travel in groups, over the speed limit that troopers won't bother?
i'm guilty of that sometimes, and following the guy with a radar detector.
on city streets i rarely go more than five over. however if the road is smooth, and there's no one in front of me, i tend to cruise without it registering in my brain.
BMWboy
7th August 2002, 03:15
you want to be in the middle of the pack on a highway. not because the trooper will not bother if there are enough of you, because you let the people in front of you and behind you get pulled over, because the trooper can't get a speed reading on your car.

The roads have speed limits? :D
I usually obey all other laws except the speed limit. Every now and then I'll forget to use my turn signal, or I'll tailgate someone... but that's only if people start pissing me off. I can't stand people that:
-Drive slow in the fast lane (even if they're doing the speed limit)
-Cut corners
-Don't use turn signals at all
-Pull out in front of me and slow me down
-etc...
Of course there are exceptions. Truck drivers have to drive offensively because of the large truck they're driving. They can't maneuver, accelerate, or brake as well as small vehicles. Etc.

I tend to chose not to drive most of the time. Public transportation and getting around by my own power (blading, walking) tends to be cheaper and less stressful.

I give people the finger if they go slow. A few weeks ago there was this old guy infront of us on the bridge who was driving super slow. The truck driver went 2 turn and almost ran me and My mom over. The old guy infront of us slowed down when we honked. Be glad ur werent near my mouth :)

I'm a rough driver... I definitely don't obey the speed limit, but then, not many people do. I've never gone over 85mph, except to pass and to race (on back roads in the country, where everyone knows each other anyway). But I do normally drive 9 miles over the speed limit, just so they can't catch me going 10 over. I'm weird like that :)
I also have a bad habit of drag-racing everyone that I come up to a stoplight with. Some join in, most don't. I still haven't drag-raced any chicks, none of them ever take the challenge. I've only lost to one person so far, and that was because I forgot to turn the air conditioner off :( Of course, I haven't tried it with any Corvettes/TA's/Mustangs yet LOL.
Basically, the way I drive, it's a wonder the tranny hasn't gone out yet... although the '91 is getting worse... still thinking about getting that bike heh.
Oh, and... girls can't drive. I only know of a few exceptions to that rule, and all my guy friends admit that I can DRIVE. Makes me special, doesn't it :D Sorry, I just love driving and racing and... oooooooooo *delightful shudder*

When I started driving in June I was so careful. Now since I know how to make a car do what you want it to do I've relaxed those carefulness things like speed on turning, braking, etc. I try to go the speedlimt around here. But its difficult when you live in a place where driving away from the big mountains slopes down to the valley below. I try to stay about 1-3 miles above the speedlimit if I'm coasting downhill. My dad did get a ticket for speeding in a construction zone when he explained that he was going with the flow of traffic, and said that the 25mph sign was hidden behind construction equipment. It was a speed trap which was not fair for motorists doing their own business.

in the netherlqnds you'll get a speeding ticket if yo go 3% to fast so its not very wise to start speeding here.
I got one speeding ticket in the last 5 years.
normally i drive a bit to fast, but when there is someone with me i keep myself restricted to the laws.
Note: I hate pleople who use their foglights when it rains; Its forbidden to use foglight when it rains, cause it blinds people.

I very rarely stick to the speed limit (and have been caught by the police once for it) - I drive according to the conditions of the road - through some housing areas and villages, particularly in the wet it isn't safe to drive at the speed limit even - so I drive slower.
Likewise on the motorway in fog, you'd be stupid to drive at 115kmh (70mph) - the limit in England - as it's way to fast.
However, on a clear day on an empty motorway, there's no reason why you shouldn't drive faster - 160kmh (100mph) is a perfectly safe speed - the roads here are engineered for this sort of high speed in any case, as the specifications for a motorway were put in place before any speed limit was introduced at all.
I tend to obey other laws, although have at night been known to take liberties with red lights at night (there is no equivalent of the "right turn on red" law in England, meaning that you're supposed to sit and wait at an empty junction in the middle of the night, even if you can see there's nothing coming...

i'm cautious, but at the same time i speed and take corners a little fast. just keeps it fun. but i dont pull asshole maneuvers in traffic or race. theres only so much you can get away with in a 3500+lb car with 160hp and soft shocks (koni adjust-a-ride, here i come :D).

Ugh. I'm a law-abiding citizen who don't care about no speed limit. But who cares about the speed limit? I could care less for a speeding ticket. It's people that cut me off for no reason or can't use their gas peddel that I can't take.
A couple of days ago, I was driving along to go to Wal-Mart to pick up my usual groceries (Mags, beer, wings, stuff like that) when some guy in a 1994 Corvette cut me off. I was driving in my 1996 Honda Prelude at the time. It was a 4 lane road, and the path I was taking was 2 lanes, and I was in the fast lane when he passed me up. You could tell he was being an asshole, because when he got in front of me, he started to slow down a bit, like he was trying to cut me off or something. I was going plenty fast enough in the lance I was in, about 10mph over the speed limit to be more exact. I desided to get in the left lane to speed up next to him, but he kept speeding up away from me. I had already known fromt he start that my Prelude couldn't keep up the the 'Vette, so I just desided to speed up with him. I knew there were some railroad tracks up ahead, but I knew the guy in the Corvette didn't. So I desided to keep him up at speeding, and then when I got to the tracks, I slowed down. When he hit the tracks at the high speed he was going at, he just bottomed-out. You could see sparks flying, and he pulled over to the side of the road. I then just blasted past him while he sat there. A few seconds later, I was at the stop light at the end of the road, and I could see him in my rear view mirror chasing after me, like he wanted some more, but I took a path into a neighborhood and lost him.
I've even had to pass up people in the fast lane myself, only because I could idle up to them in my car and I'd still catch up with them.

No, but I can drift like a rally racer in my Honda Prelude! And yes, it is possible to over-steer in a FWD car...

I have gotten two verbal warnings, the only possible good outcome of getting pulled over, because there is no written evidence of the stop. the first one I was driving 65 in a 45 at 2 in the morning, and the cop admitted that he only pulled me over to make sure I hadn't stolen the car. the other time, a cop was trailing me, but because he was moving, he couldn't get an exact reading on my speed, so he couldn't give me a speeding ticket.
I drive like I'm an F1 driver too, but only when I need to unwind or I am late for work, but only on backroads where other cars(and cops) are rarely seen. and because my car is rear-wheel drive, there is plenty of tail-out happiness to spare.

I usually speed on the freeway, if not you will die. From what I have heard in Phoenix the cops are instructed that safety matters more then speed. (Doesn't mean you won't get a jack ass cop.) A car doing 55 in a 55 zone while everyone is doing 65 is the dangerous driver. Of course that is the main reason they raised the highway speed limit to 65 to "speed up slower traffic"
On the surface streets I go about the speed limit. Phoenix is a 1mile grid. If you go the speed limit (there about) you will on average get all green lights. Though I break other laws to save gas (unnecessary deceleration). Illegal change changes for slower / accelerating traffic. Run the occasional stop sign (mostly in parking lots and crap). I just like to be efficient.
That's me, exactly. My town is fairly flat, with gentle slopes (about 3 degrees or so) everywhere. I usually just coast everywhere, and put a bit of pedal on if I'm getting slower then the rest of traffic.
I tend to hate most North American drivers. They just cannot adjust their driving style to the road conditions. They don't know how to use the fast lane; they'll accelerate, overtake you, then drive the rest of the way to their destination in the fast lane, doing maximum 10km/h over the limit. On city streets, they either are over cautious, or far too aggressive for the amount of traffic. We get a bundle of aggressive drivers in the suburbs, where I live.

I never pass the lmit in local areas- and on the freeway I only speed if its practically vacant; which in california is only the hours 1-4AM... there's just too many cars here to speed.
We have the danger here of hundreds of unlicensed immigrant drivers- one has to be incredibly cautious. If one hits you, they have no "El Insurance-o" and you'll be in quite a rut.

I'll speed sometimes, tailgate slow people, and do rolling stops in places where you can see what's coming before you get to the intersection. And I'm pretty good at controlling skids, too, my truck just seems to do what I want it to do...

A while back (probably 7 or 8 months ago), I was on my way home late at night. Naturally, since I live out in the sticks, speeding isn't a problem. I ended up racing a Dodge Ram down a long backroad just for the hell of it. I beat him, even though my electronic speed limiter kicked in twice. I'm rather proud of my little truck. :) I've got a V-6, yet I was able to beat a V-8. And come to think of it... that was the one time that I've driven the most over the speed limit: 97mph in a 35mph zone. :D
