What do you think about that?

Do you have any *legal* mp3?

Trigear

only the ones from mp3.com

rm'
11th August 2002, 07:13
The ones I ripped from my own cds (virtually all of them).

none of my mp3's are illegal. the .mp3 format is perfectly legal. it's the CONTENT of the mp3 that makes it illegal.

Other than that, what RM said. my ripped CDs.

Well.. i'm obviously talking about the CONTENT of the MP3s.

My MP3's are as legal as walking around in your house as long as you stay inside. Hmm...I think I'm gonna do that...

Xerxes
12th August 2002, 02:05
90% of my mp3's are legal. The illegal ones belong to my brother and sister- recordings of ghetto niggaz talking about gold chains and related things.

Shenlong

I used to own some illegal MP3s. All had poor sound quality compaired to the ones I ripped of CDs and were deleted promptly.

P.S. I think I meant to say "walking around in your house naked". I don't even remember posting that...

I have a whole bunch of illegal MP3s, but all of the ones I actually listen to were pulled from my own CDs.

Define "illegal mp3".. Aren't you allowed to copy as much mp3's you like as long as you don't share them??

Rocker

Here's the best source I've found yet on the term "fair use" (http://www.utsystem.edu/ogc/intellectualproperty/copypol2.htm).

Lapikas

*Throws up his hands and says: What's the use!!

Call me lazy but
I'M NOT READING THAT!! THAT'S LIKE.. BILLION PAGES LONG!!

rm' did you read all of that?

Whatever is relevant to whatever it is that I'm doing at the time that I sit down to read it. In other words, when I am looking for one specific thing, I will scan through the document, until I find it. I've gone through about 1/4 of it by this method.

Note that that deals with "fair use" only. It doesn't deal with specific cases, or situations with definite legal boundaries. For that, I recommend you make a visit to the US Copyright Office (http://www.loc.gov/copyright/). Among other things, they archive the DCMA, several versions and amendments to copyright law, and this delightfully informative primer on copyright law (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html).

Well, I have many many MP3s which I now declare as backups if I damage the original copy I have yet to buy. Of course I don't listen to the MP3s because they are only for back up reasons.

Lapikas

Most of my mp3's are 'illegal'. Off course I have also quite a bunch of legal (copy's of my cd's) ones. I just love that playlist that has over 2000 songs in it :)

Twinsen
14th August 2002, 16:05
Any Mp3 downloaded from an ftp, website or p2p (like KaZaA) is *illegal*.

I suppose that the only way to get *legal* Mp3's is ripping it from your own CD's.

Or to download MP3s that artists freely distribute.

Bullshit...

As for me, I find it ironic that my ripped mp3's are virtually the only legal software on this pc. Even the OS is hooky :D

14th August 2002, 20:39
I have about 10-15 mp3's from mp3.com and other free-distribute sites. I've ripped one track each from 2 cd's to mp3, but all the rest are from audioGalaxy (mirip) There are some tracks that I downloaded then bought, but that only accounts for one or two of them

All My OGG files are legal (except 2)

and1k -- going back to lurk mode ;)

well i have a few cd's i ripped myself, but they were friend's cds... so i guess that counts as illegal... i think i ripped 4 cd's of mine that i actually bought a few years back, cause i dont wanna mess with the cd's themselves... a bit tedious for my taste... lol.

i've paid for very few peices of music or software in my life :D

I have a lot of legal ogg files that I rip from my own CD's, the rest of my oggs are things I've ripped from friends' CD's, pretty much any MP3 I have I have downloaded and thus illegal. A lot of that is quite rare and unreleased stuff like bootlegs etc, alternate recordings of tings I have on CD that kinda thing. The kind of thing you can't buy in the shops. I sleep easy night :)

I download all my mp3s from WinMx and downloaded a few from mp3.com, so yeah mine are illegal. And I have my cds that I ripped myself(my own cds, not friends). Then I have a mess of movies and well...
