Watch'yer Watch?
And now, to steal a bop thread that he only WISHES he would have thought of... http://www.uniquehardware.co.uk/serv...d/smilegah.gif
What watch do you wear- or if you own many, many watches (looks at bop's direction) which do you wear on most occasions. I wear this- a fossil http://www.fossil.com/images/products/big/JR7978.jpg What first attracted me to it was the deep azure of the face... when the light hits it ... it produces a wonderfully brilliant blue. The asian characters in the back count from 1-60. Ichi, ni, san... :) Tell us about your timepiece... |
I wear a wall clock on a necklack :D

Mine's actually got a blue face, but it's not listed on the Citizen site. I'm extremely pissed off with it. It was way overpriced, and it has problems. The calender doesn't hold the date right. It seems to magically gain (and more often) lose days. The day doesn't even freaking roll over at Midnight. I don't even know when it rolls over now. I think somewhere around 10:00pm. I need to send it back to the factory and tell them to fix the thing. It cost way to much to be screwing up the way it is. I doubt I'll ever buy another Citizen watch. |
X, I love you for making this thread but i did have a similar thread a while back, see here--> watch out
As most folks know I am a collector of fine timepieces... my collection continues to grow The one I am waiting for at the moment is a limited edition Fossil Aut-O-Matic, they only made 5000 and mine is #1028. It has a very cool vintage look to it... Here's the dial... http://www.doogle.com/ebay/bill/b11-main.jpg and for anyone who cares... here's the great see thru case-back case-back |

(By the way, extremely cool watch. I love all things retro. How much would that thing go for nowadays?) |
You have to love those pendulum winders. My other watch of choice was a Seiko Kinetic, but unfortunately, I chose the Citizen.

I distrust the Kinetic and Eco-Drive series... I work with both lines and they have giving me headaches for a year and a half. They are impossible to fix and they have very erratic behavior. The kinetics get stuck in this two second warning tick and never want to go back to normal even when wound excessively... and the Eco-drives are fine as long as they're constantly in direct light, but there reserve power is weak and unreliable.
For accuracy stick to a traditional quartz (battery operated) for old time functionality, go with a hand wound mechanical or a self-winding automatic... these types of watches are usually maintenance free. [edit=sorry for the double post, damn edit button jumped off my screen] |

Never wear one, makes life much more interesting, I'm either always incredibly early for everything, or fashionably late
:D |
i've got an old beat up fossil that i bought with my first ever paycheck. that one was and still is my favorite, but i don't wear it anymore because the strap (fourth strap it's been through) wore out.
now i use a 20th anniversary employee gold watch from rutgers university. my mother has been working at rutgers for just over 20 years. about a week after my 20th birthday one of her coworkers celebrated his 20th anniversary as faculty at rutgers, and he got the watch but had no use for it (he's one of those scruffy professors that doesn't give much of a shit, and the students love him and the deans hate him but he has tenure), so he gave it to me. so now i have a nifty gold rutgers watch that says "20" on it. :D |
I've got a nice Accurist one, I remember not being able to find a pic of it the last time this thread came around so I wont try now. It originally had a brown strap but I had to change it and my step dad got me a black one
|
I have Leijona (translated as lion), though I never wear it. Only clock I need is on my Nokia 8210.
|
I either tell the time by looking at my phone, asking someone else, or try to work it out by the suns position. but this is harder when it is night time.

my visor deluxe is a nice time piece too
|
I don't have one.
|
mines a sexy thing for bein so old :)
I want a visor prism...or a color treo, but I'd rather the prism cause of it's springboard slot. Too bad they don't sell em anymore on their site :( |
i use a timex datalink, a few years old, computer sends info to it by flashing stuff on the ol' CRT . . . i can't find a picture of mine on the timex site though . . .
|
Never got on with watches, they feel uncomfortable and I break them too easily.
My mother in law bought me one once, so I had to wear it when she came to visit. True to form I broke it within two hours and had to get a new glass fitted before I could go home that night. The only watch I own is more of an art work, though it does work as a watch. It's called 'Frozen Sky' by Langlands & Bell, Looks like any cheap conventional watch except the whole dial acts as the second hand and the numerals are acronyms for international airports. http://www.cca-kitakyushu.org/project/langbellex.html shows the original work it was derived from. I use a digital watch, a Timex Ironman triathlon. the cool thing about it is that I can put it in a mode where I flick my wrist and the backlight turns on. very useful when you only have one hand free.

Got this in the States in the Summer of 2000. I like it because of the abuse it is able to take without leaving so much as a scratch. Mine has been beaten with a meat tenderiser by a drunken friend of mine - never even stopped. |
A Bellini Solar 2000.
its solar powerd, never need to wind replace baterys, ect |

I dont really like handsprings but i have 2 get one cause Im gonna get a glucose monitor springboard so i dont have to write my blood sugars down everytime...I get a new pda and my insurance will pay for it :D |
This thread has made me realise that I need a decent watch, so I am now off to try and find a nice one.
|
I had a low-price Timex sports watch until I went to BW3's. Instead of getting chicken wings and cheese sticks, I also found a silver Fossil watch on the floor. I just picked it up and took it. It worked, and had no scratches on it, sorta like new. It's pretty cool, especially since I found it for free! :p
First time around, I found an NFL PS2 game in the restroom sink, then I found the watch. I wonder what I'll get next... |

I used to wear i watch...but i dont wear it anymore because i lost it a few years ago (i've found it tho) and then stopped wearing it. |
always go for the cheap stuff. its often as good anyways. i wear a $25 timex ironman. no problems, its indestructible, and keeps time just as well as those $500 watches. i laugh at all of you suckers.

Mine is a cheap, plastic, light purple digital with the Powerpuff Girls on it. The coolest part is that you can open up the face cover and change the picture to any of 5. Handy. :)
|
A cactuar wearing a watch!? Now, that's just rediculous!
|
If you want a japanese watch try for this Swatch called Genji.
http://home.rochester.rr.com/boplicity/JUNK/genji.jpg I can actually read the day now... thanks to X. :) |
I wanna learn how to speak japanese :(
|
I wear a Fossil Relic... uh.... it's a silver band with a light blue/silver face... and I can't find a pic of it, and I don't know what model it is, so you guys can just imagine it. It's got three hands, and they all move at different speeds, and it has some numbers on it. And it's cool and stuff. Like, yeah.
