Radiation...from LCD?

Hello.

This is a dumb question, but I was wondering if it was possible to get radiation from an LCD monitor?

I doubt it is possible because of no CRT but how is the colour displayed?

Well, gtg. Thanks!

deadrabbit 24th August 2002 04:12

i doubt there's any radiation . . . LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, here's how it works: http://www.howstuffworks.com/lcd.htm

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but you are going to die. Don't worry about it.

BMWboy 24th August 2002 05:51

well i've spent quite alot of time in front of my LCD, and I haven't started mutating yet.

Trigear 24th August 2002 05:56

if you listen to the cuckoos who talk about radiation, they'd probably tell you there's harmful radiation in donuts. just live life.

Curi0us_George 24th August 2002 06:01

Maybe a little, but you probably get more radiation from the ********12 breaking down inside your own body.

liquidmotion 24th August 2002 06:27

runs on pure communism.

plain and simple, broseph :)

It mutates your stomach so that it gets fatter :igor: but only after a whole bunch.

I was looking for a cooking thermometer the other day, and saw what looked from the front like a cheap piece of crap... when I read the label, it said "Pure LCD display!" I then looked at the TOP of the thermometer, and saw NOT an LCD, but a plain analog thermometer lol. I have no idea where they got the LCD thing.

I don't know how you would get any radiation out of an LCD though.

I Was Wondering I Know Theres No Radiation In A LCD Displays But What About Normal Computer Monitors Do They Have Radiation In Them?

Curi0us_George 24th August 2002 08:51

Yes, firing electrons at phosphorous releases a bit of radiation. Pretty much everything releases radiation, though. A little bit won't hurt you. You'd get more if you were outside in the sun.

P.S. The backlighting inside LCD monitors actually does release a bit of radiation, but it's a tiny, tiny amount. It's about as insignificant as it can get.

eleet-2k2 24th August 2002 12:41

Alright, that's what I was thinking because there are no electrons to manipulate.

Thanks! :)

Mr 75MHz --> Yes, you get lots and lots of radiation from big hinking CRT monitors. Here is how it works http://www.howstuffworks.com/monitor.htm

Atmo 24th August 2002 12:45

I'd be more worried about the radiation emitted from mobile phones than CRT's...

Bilbo Baggins 24th August 2002 12:46

We are bombarded by radiation every single second of every single day. Its all in the atmosphere too.

Mr 75hz, can you please refrain from attaching BMP format files.

Oni-Dracula 24th August 2002 12:51

You get more radiation from laying out in the sun. Whoop de doo! Gimme more radiation so my skin looks nice and dark :)

The Chariot

Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.

We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor, and my leisure too,
For his civility.

We passed the school where children played,
Their lessons scarcely done;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.

Or rather He passed us.
The dews drew quivering and chill
For only gossamer, my gown,
My tippet, only tulle.

We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible.
The cornice but a mound.

Since then 'tis centuries; but each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses' heads
Were toward eternity.

you wont get any noticeable radiation. you might get a little, but you can get the same amount from eating a overcooked hamburger (makes you think, doesnt it?).

Bilbo Baggins 24th August 2002 23:26

Only about how much I would like a hamburger right now.

msteed_02 25th August 2002 01:44

I'm paranoid now... /me runs to find a radiation suit

Oni-Dracula 25th August 2002 04:31

I want a manwitch please. And a manwich. And a sloppy joe.

whiteflip 25th August 2002 04:59

mmm sunshine now thats some good vitamen D yo. i dunno about putting 900mhz and 2.4ghz transmitters next to my head. my moms old nokia was next to our monitor. it started ringing and the screen waked out. is that happening to my brain? prolly.

i can't remember the name of the comic but i used to read it every week.
funny as hell,
so what is the name of the comic and where can i find it again?

Jay 25th August 2002 06:17

you realize that if there were absolutly no radiation you would die. If you are going to worry about living so much then why are you afraid of dying?

whiteflip 25th August 2002 06:53

i almost drove off a cliff today 3 times :)

Hamylde 25th August 2002 14:30
