Would you like slavery with that? :p

McDonalds will never change.

On a sidenote, at the moment I'm reading Fast Food Nation - The Dark Side of the All-American meal by Eric Schlosser.

It's really interesting

Not only does their food suck, now they're doing this too.

I really dislike Rotten Ronnie's even more now.

Vie 24th August 2002 16:51

Whats next on the menu?

the McBrazil, the McIraq?

Rovastar 24th August 2002 17:00

You've got to be kidding me...Their chicken nuggets are processed and don't even TASTE like chicken nuggets. Chic Fillet have better chicken nuggets. Plus their fries just die out once they get cold. You can eat Arby's fries cold without having to spit them out from the lack of taste.
Then again, their McChicken Fillet sandwiches are good...

Great, now I'm hungry!

I do not actually see anyone saying lets ban McDonalds, it would just be a bit better of them to think about what they are marketing.

Would you like to see the McTradeTower?

Aeroe 24th August 2002 17:37

i don't see naming something after a continent is vile and digusting... but anything to protest "evil" free markets right?

Lain 24th August 2002 17:45

They couldn't think of another name for it?

kaprikorn 24th August 2002 17:55

I really don't understand why this is such a big deal. People are way to sensitive sometimes. The fact that there is a meal i Norway called McAfrica is not a mockery of the starving people nor does it make their situation any worse. If McAfrica were actually sold in Africa nobody would complain, I thing it would be considered more of a tribute in that case.

(sorry about my sepellingm , my delete key (and backspace) have brioken, and you can see how badly i usually type...)

Trigear 24th August 2002 19:14

this is hilarious.

mcdonalds is an evil megacorporation. no one is denying that. but "mcafrika" is the least of your worries. surely mcdonalds haters could come up with something WORSE than that? i don't see a problem with "mcafrika" at all. i've seen ethiopian restaurants, when all i've heard about ethiopian is that they're all starving. marketing is and has always been a cruel bitch. that's not news.

Sure, why not? Personally, I don't really care what McDonalds sells. I'm not goig to eat there, regardless. Besides, McDonald's is not belittling the crisis in Africa. The burger is not being called the McStarvingChildrenOfAfrica. It's not called the McHahahaYou'reStarvingWhileI'mEatingABigJuicyBurger. It's not called the McAidsInAfricaIsFunny. It's just called the McAfrica. Would you get offended if they released a McMexico? Oh my God! There are starving people in Mexico!

It's an African-style recipe. What's so offensive about that?

you're damn right i would...but seriously, i think i'll be on Aeroe's side on this one. so they name it 'McAfrika', it's supposed to represent authentic food, not the state of the population in africa. (of course, is the food really authentic since no one in Africa has any food, supposedly?) :)

[edit]i remember when McDonald's released the Big Mac. Being the fat person that I am, I was offended by their use of the word 'Big'. :P[/edit]

The original "McAfrica" recipe is of course is a handful of sand between two elephant patties...

Personally I would have steered around using the word "africa" and called it something like the "McSoooouuul" ;)

McD's Norway will now eloquently remedy the situation/PR disaster by donating 5% of all proceeds to "Save the Children"- just you watch.

is there a downside? helping is helping...doesn't really matter the reason behind it.

Xerxes 25th August 2002 09:28

Dont get me wrong, nothing wrong with charity. Just saying, based off histories of other corporations, its a good chance it's their next move...

ctn|chrisw 25th August 2002 10:00

I dont know why the people care. in the time that they were protesting they wasted time to help the starving africans. And mcdonalds food stinks. I dont know about other countries, but, in the U.S. they dont change the oil for about a week. Their could be rats swimming in it....well remember this the next time u want mcdonalds. :) :D

rm' 25th August 2002 17:41

The outcry over the name is more shocking then the name itself.
