i think i borked it :(
hey, this is me coming to you from a slow ass 233mhz :(
last night i tried to overclock my cpu, i upped the fsb, and now when i turn on my pc everything looks normal - except no screen. ram is ok, iv either fried my cpu, or i need to reset my bios. how do i reset my bios? anything else that could help? sadly, - mc^^^^ |
Almost all motherboards have a jumper that you set, turn the comp on, turn it off, move the jumper back, and the bios is reset. Also, you can just pop the battery out, wait about a minute, then put it back in.
|
If you can't find the jumper, look for the battery on the mother board and pull it off for about 30 seconds, plug it back in and restart.

thanx for the speedy replies, i have pulled the battery out several times and turned on then off and put battery in but it hasnt helped. :( looks like my cpu is fried. thing is, it never smelled of anything.
if im gonna need a new cpu, i dont wanna stick it in there and then have the bios not be reset and therefore friing that aswell, how will i know? anyone got any amd athlon thunderbird 1.1ghz or higher around that they may be able to send me? (for some money of course) i never used a pencil to join the bridges on my cpu, as i could set the fsb there and then, and btw im running a asus A7V m/b (for anyone that knows where the reset jumper is |
perhaps it may have seemed obvious to most at the time... but the machine MUST be unpuged from the wall for said tricks to work...
try holding down the insert key while powering the machine on |
ok, iv done all that over and over, i dunno if it worked cause nothing special happened and i have no screen to see anything. im assunming my cpu is fried. talking to ma folks we have sorted a few things out. im going to put a new m/b, cpu and ram in my pc, take the old motherboard, stick it in my parents pc (along with ram) and they will also get a old ~500mhz cpu. in the end i will have an upgraded pc and so will they. only thing is im not sure if when i stick the cpu in my parents pc if it will fry it as the m/b may still be fuxored, i might take my m/b into a pc store and ask them to test it for me.
here is what im planning for my new pc (prices are aud) AMD athlon XP 1800+ = ~$200 MSI KT333 ULTRA DDR 6 CHL Audio ATX Mainboard = ~$200 256Mb PC2100 DDR ram = ~$140 total = ~$540 planning on shoving that in my old case and use old cards. opinions welcome (and possible flaws in my plan) thanx for teh help |
well no one else seems to have pointed this out but the mb battery is extremly sensitive to dirt and other particls such as greesy fingers!
u've gotta be very careful when handeling that battery of it can stop the curent from flowing properly, you ma consider buying a new batt and putting it in with glovs, not you hands! |
