winxp cd writer problem
ok, i have an hp 8230e usb cd-writer
i've had it for about 6 months now, and it has worked fairly reliably on my old computer (win98se, p3 500mhz, etc) i recently got a new laptop (winxp, p4 1.6ghz, 256megs ram) and now my writer doesn't work. i'll plug it in, the system will recognize that it is a cd writer, and it will try to do the burn function built into explorer when i tell it to, but it will fail i tried using nero, and it claims that the disks, which are blank, have only 10 or 20 megabytes on them i've tried using two different brands of cdr, neither works i tried using the software off of hp's website, and it doesn't work, and doesn't give an error message that i can understand either, it just says "it didn't work. try again?" essentially, no reasons given i tried installing the drivers off of hp's website, but my computer says that i already have the best drivers available, and won't let me install them this is pissing me off, i need the writer to work, so i can back up stuff, i promised a friend who is moving away in 3 days that i'd make her a cd anyone got any ideas? |
This may sounds kind of silly or dumb, but is it compatable with XP?
I can't help you. Sorry. Try maybe Roxio EZ CD Creator or DiscJuggler. |
i checked the windows catalogue, and it does say compatible w/ windows xp
though good idea and, why would hp provide drivers on their site if it wasn't? the program i got off of the hp site is the latest version of roxio cd creator thingy what's discjuggler? and i just tried it again, using hte software from the hp website it gave this Sense:FF ASC:02 ASCQ:10 (Command:5A) -------------------------------------------------- HP CD-Writer+ 8200f (E:) ATAPI (1.0A) PX.DLL - 1.1.0.297 PXMAS.DLL - 1.5.0.94 PXWAVE.DLL - 1.2.0.75 OLEAUT32.DLL - 3.50.5014.0 MSVBVM60.DLL - 6.0.92.37 MSCOMCTL.OCX - 6.0.88.62 MSCOMCT2.OCX - 6.0.88.4 PXHelp20.SYS - 2.2.27.1 as the advanced info on why it failed, i don't know if anyone knows what this means and it gives the option to retry burning, asks to have a new cd put in, then won't let the tray be ejected i have to unplug hte thing and plug it back in first |
