Logon Screen Bypassed - Help Please
I recently re-installed WindowsME on my machine, and now when my computer starts up it completely bypasses the logon dialogue box. This wouldn't be a problem, except that when I'm not logged on as a specific user the option to save my password when I dial the internet is greyed out, and it's a pain to always have to type in my pw when i connect to the net.
Workarounds I have tried: a) removing, re-adding, and re-configuring Client for Microsoft Networks in the network settings control panel. b) deleting all the .pwl passwords that were previously on my computer. c) setting up a specific User in Settings --> Control Panel --> Users. Still, every time I retart my comp, it bypasses the logon screen. Internet cookies appear as "anyuser@domain.com" in the Cookies folder instead of my old logon name. Can anyone suggest any other possible solutions I could try? Also, please do not deluge me with "Change your operating system" posts. I am aware that many people dislike ME, but I've been running it for over a year and not had a problem, so I'm not planning on upgrading or downgrading just yet. |
Control Panel -> Users
I believe there is an option in there to turn on the login. Otherwise, try opening the Networking and change the login manager. Damn it. It's been too long since I've used WinME or Win98. I know the option is there, and I could find it if I was at your computer, but I'm not certain right now. |
Perhaps this may help you out. :)

Thanks guys. Actually I figured it out on my own. I re-installed Windows' Virtual Private Networking and now everything works fine. Go figure...

just click "cancel" and youre in with near root privs and accsess to the root usernames/pws :rolleyes:
unless they use that reghack that makes you log in ;-p |
The login features on 9x were never ever ever meant to be a security measure. They were just a usability feature so everyone can have their own wallpapers and themes etc. Thinking of them as a security measure is wrong.

.. which lots of people do..

Security isn't really the issue. I just wanted to be able to access the features that I couldn't (ie. the "save Password" and "Connect Automatically" features in Dial-up Networking) when logged on as "anyuser" or "default."
