why have one when you can have 2?

yes, if you hadn't guessed from the topic, Earth could have 2, yes, 2 moons.

story

!!

(actually, it's 3, read the article)

Why have 2 when you already have 1?

It be cool just to blow our second one up, if it is confirmed. It's just a rock, and is probably no more helpful than the one we have already...

Actually, I thought this might be related to Xerxes' thread about growing extra penises...

Nope, but it was a clever coincidence. ;)

thats the most interesting thing i have read all day.

Signal Box 11th September 2002 21:16

Wow. I guess that warrants to update all of the astronomy textbooks. I think the only concern is if this 'moon' will have any adverse effect on our tides.

Even something as small as a rocket booster might hurt if it happened to fall on me, on the other hand. I'm in favor of hollowing it out, parking it in a more stable orbit, and then starting up the first zero-g sex ranch ;). If that doesn't get man(men) into space, nothing will.

Whoops, I already forgot. This would have happened already when we first sent out a satellite...Hmm...

Getting back on topic, just leave it there. No threat now that I've been cleared up on this issue.

cyu 11th September 2002 22:31

How come I never see 2 moons during the night? Liars!!

fwgx 12th September 2002 08:36

So when I answered in my science exam that there was onlt 1 natural satalite of the earth I was wrong. And they marked it wrong. I shall have to get onto the exam board about this so students are taught the right thing. I had no idea we've had a second moon since 1986!!

whiteflip 12th September 2002 08:47

ugh we have 3 natural sattilites

fwgx 12th September 2002 09:11

well not when I did my exam we didn't :p

Xerxes 12th September 2002 09:12

I think after close examination the third satelite it will turn out to be Marlon Brando...

You can only inflate so much before becoming aloft and rise skyward, and it would explain where he's been the last couple years.

Since it is in a 55 day orbit, i would say that it is in an orbit roughly twice the size that of the Moon.

Now here is something, what would we call it? Moon2?
