The big step

Well, not only are Beau and I getting married soon, but we'll soon be moving into our first place. We got an apartment in Whiting, IN for $520/month. Before you tell us we're insane for that, that's actually a low rent for the area. It's one bedroom, gas & water paid, and comes with all appliances including a washer and dryer. It'll be closer to work, and it's got radiator-heating instead of forced air, so no more dust!! The best part is our cat can come with us. :)
And so, the bird finally prepares to leave the nest...:D

:weird:

in washington, your average apartment runs you about 700.00 a month for a one bedroom.if you can afford it,they'll throw in a closet or two for 200.00 extra.

patroclus22 15th September 2002 01:09

Thanks all! :):):)

Pixie: That's about what rents are like in Chicago right now. A Studio apartment will run about $800 a month. 1 bedrooms about $1,200, 2 bedrooms about $1,600, and so on.

Xerxes: LMAO

John: I'll be able to throw a rock and hit the southeast side of Chicago. If I were to stand on the roof of this place, I'd be able to see the Sears Tower, Aon Center, and the Hancock Bldg.

You said it! :)

The cool thing would be, if I can get into a nearby Uni when it comes time, I can still live with my folks. :)
[/edit]

Good for you patro! :) I hope you enjoy living together and live a long happy life. :)

binary hero 15th September 2002 18:08

Congradulations!

Dont forget Staryards!

rm' 15th September 2002 18:45

I so wanted to make a joke about holding the ceremony on the HMS Indefagitable, but since I respect you, I realize it would be in bad taste :)

patroclus22 26th September 2002 01:38

Well, the big step appears to have taken right into a chasm...

I had to call our landlord tonight and see if we can back out of the lease. I don't know how secure my job is right now, and with the wedding looming before us, and with me trying to get my financial picture under control, we just couldn't afford the expense of moving out on our own right now. Not at $520 a month, anyway.
The worst part about it is I feel like I'm letting Beau down in all this. I know he's disappointed, but I just have to follow my gut instinct on this one. I know I've we've got to move out on our own eventually, but I just feel that right now isn't the time. I can't explain it any better than that.

I hope it's not too late

The Big Step

Congrats. Under 600 dollars for an apartment? In this world ? Good for you. You couldn't get a closet for that where I am, which is why I am , where I am. I just made myself dizzy. You get to take your cat .Hoooraaay

J. Burnaway 26th September 2002 02:25

Sorry to hear your plans aren't working exactly as you'd hoped, but congrats on getting married. Which of the very few enlightened states will the ceremony be in?

sscw46 26th September 2002 04:17

Congratulations! Best of luck to you guys.

And $520 is not bad at all. Don't even get me started on the apartment prices in San Francisco. :p

InvisableMan 26th September 2002 04:39

holy shit, 520 a month!?!? thats INSANELY CHEAP!!

here in san jose youre lucky to find rent under 2,000 a month (the place i live is 2600 a month) san fran is cheaper too :p

congrats, too. :D
