oh ya....one more person i'd realy like to thank is db,
thank god that you are around! b/c of you winamp 2 skinning is being given an extended life. This contests is just one of many good thing you have been doing for this broard, u also make some of the most useful and constructive coments around here these days,
thanks for your contrabution.

also a comment to my competition,
concider yourselfs as all being very good skinners. in this contest "we" are the last of the "professinal" skinners out there for wa2 and there can only be one winner. 1st or 5th place shouldent mean much to use, all these skins are awsome in design, and unique in exicution. when the best faced off at each other sometimes the votes just comes down to pples taste. i know there aint much of us left in the wa2 world so lets just be happy there are still some cool things happening here.

First off - e-raser - congrats! Really nice job. We're sharing space on page one of music right now, I figure I'm in good company ^_^

Congrats overall to everyone, that everyone took top spot according to someone says something about the quality of the entries; it's like any art, everyone "knows what they like when they see it" :p

Thanks db for making the contest - I usually only manage to skin either by accident (Wired) or if something hits me that seems to "fit" or "want" to be skinned, so I had to push myself a bit on this. Guess I did something right, because this was my first 5 star skin, something I've been aiming for since I started a few months ago. (4.5 for completeness, but hey, I was shocked beyond belief). I expect I'll see more of these appearing in the top section of music as well - people will be looking up The Orb who don't already know the band here soon :p

Anyway, I had fun with this, and hope everyone else did as well!:D

so is this contest done now?
Who will take the liberty to sum everything up for us?

Who do you think? ;)

Voting is still going on until Sunday 24:00 GMT.

Chad: As Dekt said, I ranked you 4th, together with dimichan. It's a bitch I know, and it was a shame to have to do it - to both of you - but it had to happen to someone :/ What made this contest work out so well was that it was by no means a straighforward decision doing the rankings...

chiquita chad 27th September 2002 19:27

e-raser won. nuff said

StillWater 28th September 2002 01:24

No one's won yet. Voting still goes on for another 46 hours or so.

Jellby 28th September 2002 11:32

Would it be possible for you to make the video available for everyone, not only for the winner? I guess you will send the winner a "high-quality" tape or something, but could you also make a divx (or similar) version for us mortals? I know, you have 56k and it would take forever to upload, but maybe the winner has a better connection and could upload it for you if you send him a CD... Just wishful thinking, of course, but I woul like to see your work :)

e-raser 29th September 2002 23:49

by the way why is everyone making incompleat conclusions on who won?,
i've scean my name in second and third for most of this thread so why is every one telling me i am the winner?
i thought at the begining on the thread i was on 4th, then a week of so later i concluded thatr i managed to get into second but never did i think i had first, isn't "not in sandiago" doing better than me?

chiquita chad 30th September 2002 02:40

if i added correctly, you won by 5 points. i'll add again to be sure...

my math seems to have been right. i have 31... you have 36

e-raser 30th September 2002 03:42

ah...but insn't there also votes by PM (privet message), some pple may not have wanted for everyone else to see who they were voting for.
its still not over

StillWater 30th September 2002 06:42

There was one secret vote, although it doesn't change the final order.

The official results:

e-raser: 37
chiquita chad - 33
dekt - 28
not in santiago - 24
dimichan - 16

Thanks to everyone for voting, and, again, a very big thanks to the skinners. Well, only one person will receive a prize, but it seems to me that this was a successful contest for all concerned. Cool! I hope you guys all publish the skins here and at 1001 so everyone can see what a cool skin contest I organised, hehe :D ;) . Well done :)

e-raser, I'll pm you in a minute about the video.

not in santiago 30th September 2002 16:32

Now that a) the contest is over and b) I've returned from gallavanting o'er mountain and stream, I can throw my two bits in as well. (Get ready for a novel. :p )

First off, congratulations to e-raser for your win. It's an awesome skin and truly deserving of first place. Secondly, let me echo previous sentiments and say congratulations to the rest of the skinners for making skins also worthy of first place.

I'd like to repeat dimichan's words and say when I start a new skin, it germinates from an idea I've had in my mind for a long, long time, and it's a skin I really want to make. So yes, Auntie Aubrey was more than a challenge for me! It was difficult to keep caring about it and was a true test of my determination.

Thanks db, for creating a challenging contest with a lot of elements to work with. Thanks also for the detailed comments on each of the skins when you ranked them. It's funny you mentioned a story-book starry sky vibe in AA - between the time I gave up on the skin then picked it up again, I visited the land of my young formative years and was treated to three consecutive nights of meteor showers and aurora borealis, so I think that subliminally worked its way into the skin. I'm proudest of the mbinner, even though it's based on my first concept for the skin, which failed miserably in execution.

Finally, and most important, a big fat thank you to everyone who voted for me. I'm so hypercritical of anything I do, it's nice to have reassurance of people saying it really isn't that bad! :)

***END OF OSCAR SPEECH***

:D :D :D

dekt 30th September 2002 20:11

I'm quite chuffed with bronze I have to say. I didn't expect anything out of the contest initially and even less so when I saw all the other skins were really good. I'll definitely submit my skin to a few sites.

I think being given a theme brought out the best in me since it's closer to how I'm used to working on client briefs in my job (but the encouragement is way better than what I get in the office!). By the way, Not in Santiago, individuality is good - remember the mantra:
"No Britney Spears or metal textures is a good thing. No Britney Spears or metal textures is a good thing. No Britney Spears..."

Well done everyone. Now for the best bit - we all go down the pub! :D

not in santiago 1st October 2002 01:11

Not to worry . . . I rather dislike metal skins. And Britney . . . well, that goes without saying. :D

*Leads the line down to the pub*

e-raser 1st October 2002 03:47

wow, thank you all for voting for me, its great to win stuff even if its something stupid like a plastic cerial-box toy. winning something this big thought makes the expirience a hell of alot better, (i've been giggling like a school girl all day :D )
thanks to db for making it happen and thanks to my competition who made this whole thing worth it, (most of ur skins have become part of my "favorit" skin folder with a select 40 from the thosands i've rumeged throught over the years)
i love a good competition and you guys delivered the goods.
now the only thing that remains is to pick from the ten thousand songs i like the one that should have the honer of becoming a music video. i'll anounce it to every one once the decision is made
