What makes you feel free?

What makes you feel free? I mean something that totally clears your mind of any worries or thoughts, where you literally just feel happiness and makes you feel like you could fly?

I was asking my friends today, one of them said dancing like a nutter to loud music, a couple said running really fast through fields, and some said singing really loudly with feeling. Lots said sex (unsurprisingly), lol.

Personally I feel free when I'm in the mountains when there is nothing else around only snow and silence.

Driving when you're the only thing on the road (usually at night - the motor car is literally personal freedom), and definitely mountain climbing/hiking.

It's an excellent feeling when you reach the summit, and survey the land below you everywhere (provided it isn't too cloudy to see anything, of course).

ah yes....i like hiking and climbing...
also riding my bike.
and this may sound strange, but when im in band class...everything just seems to go away

c2R 20th September 2002 12:49

Yes, views like that make a long climb worthwhile :)

I'm not too keen on cold weather and snow, however! We did Ben Nevis earlier in the "summer", and it was literally a white out at the top. Snowdon was covered in black storm clouds (although it wasn't cold, so that was okay).

The best views I had all summer were from Sca Fell Pike, and some minor peaks in the Pyrénées Orientales. I want to go back down to the south of France next summer to attempt the Canigou. That should be fun (if I have any money :()

Being around my gf :)

rm' 20th September 2002 12:57

Being up in the mountains, and having "moments of clarity" when I notice something beautiful about the world.

fwgx 20th September 2002 13:12

Going commando.....no wait....

Listening to good rock / metal music at volumes that can kill small mammals. And being with my girly.

MrMagick 20th September 2002 14:06

I will have to say, streeking nekid through a college campus of 1300 women!!

Heh, well if it's not that, surfin the net always helps me to feel free. I love the freedom of having so much information at your finger tips.

Huehuetenango 20th September 2002 14:39

walking down an empty street barefoot late at night
preferably during the months that aren't winter

it's amazingly calm and quiet, even in the middle of a large city, late at night, i love walking down the center of the street just listening to the silence, feeling the ashphalt beneath my feet (and looking out for glass)

J. Burnaway 20th September 2002 15:03

Snowboarding on a long run, when I'm my turns are really working, and the snow is still falling.

And when my wife meets me at the door with a smile when I get home on a Friday of a 3 day weekend.

MetallichicA 20th September 2002 15:20

Sledding, bundled up in five layers of clothes- I feel like a little kid again.

Running barefoot through the grass after it rains.

Hiking through the woods.

Watching a sunset or the stars.

Singing in the car by myself.

Going on a long road trip.

And for just a minute, when I'm at work and it's a very hectic day, and I've still got three hours to go... and then my husband shows up and I wasn't expecting him to. Makes my day A-OK :)

Me too.

And sometimes it can be repetitive physical work. I've had times of freedom and great clarity digging the garden. Once you find a rhythm, every thing else fades away and the mind is free to go where it pleases. Looking up and seeing the area of freshly turned earth, done one spadefull at a time, brings a belief in your ability to achieve things. Just one prerequisite of freedom.

i like walking down the middle of main roads in the middle of the night when there's no cars out.

Magic_Midget 20th September 2002 17:47

When I'm running naked around the house

Lescuyer 20th September 2002 19:08

Pulling up all anchors. It's all or nothing for me, I am either emprisoned or free and to be free, I need to have no boundaries, responsibilities, worries, etc. I felt free very few times in my life, but the most intense feelings of freedom that I have ever had occured in my dreams (oniric, not hopes) like seing me seating in a car with some of my friends, going to an "airport in Washington, to then go to France" (I agree with you guys, cars set you free, so is walking at night in a desert street, it makes me feel like I own the city).

Shenlong 20th September 2002 20:00

Skateboarding, riding my BMX bike, and driving.

...And my bedroom. I don't know where else in my house where I can get the most privacy at my own will in my whole damn house. I've got my PS2 set-up in there, my computer, TV, sterio, all my "toys" and mags. I can lay in my bed and think, or I can watch DVDs/play games/listen to CD's with my PS2 or PC. I could watch TV, or listen to the local radio stations. I've got posters all over my room of the things that I mesmerise at and like, and nothing could contain me more, not even a clinical hospital for the mentally insane where they throw you in a straight jacket and lock you up in a padded room. It's also the best place for me to just sit down and just day-dream the minutes away with peace and quiet at it's most. It's basically what expresses me, and where I feel the most comfortable, other than my 3 "outdoor" activities. It's also the best place for me to concentrate on "important" things, no matter how many distractions I may have in my room.

Xerxes 20th September 2002 22:23

The most I ever felt "free" was in Denali National park, right before fall turned into winter. I wasn't on a mountain heaven forbid, but on the ground. During autumn on the tundra, it is not the trees that turn colors but the ground; brilliant amazing colors as far as the eye can see.

I feel like I have the greatest degree of freedom when I'm doing something illegal...nothing says "I'm free" better than telling the gov't to take its hypocritical code of moral laws and shove it.

QHOBBES 20th September 2002 22:35

being in a mosh pit, not the pit. playing a really good single player
game like Half-Life. Riding my Ninja through the streets when there
is no traffic (late night or early morning on weekends).

Oni-Dracula 20th September 2002 23:11

Free and calming are two different things, in my opinion.

To tell you the truth, I've never been really "free". I've always had obligations, wants, needs floating around my head. But I have felt immense calm. I am really calm whenever I'm in bed, really tired, and james is there holding me. Free? Man I wish I could feel free.

Signal Box 20th September 2002 23:23

Good point, JustSomeOni.

For sake of staying to the original poster's definition, my being free involves being free of all worries, problems and restrictions. Until that point, I will never be free!! Though there are times where I can relax and just think about life.

papadoc 20th September 2002 23:51

Freedom for me is:
Another day without drugs,
and another day not in jail.

Other than that...maybe not wearing underwear.

I am Jesus 21st September 2002 02:03

Running around naked.

Shenlong 21st September 2002 02:06

I seriously never ran around naked...Am I missing out on something?

Oni-Dracula 21st September 2002 06:49

Nah you just run around so much you get a boner and have to jack off then you end up putting on pants afterwards cause you got bored with it.

ballard4321 21st September 2002 23:04

Gazing into the luscious blue eyes of a beautiful young woman, melting as she wraps her arms around you as if the two of you are the only things left on the world, total silence is thw only words needed, as you are.....at peace. Then it gets good when she starts to jack you off.

Or so I've heard.

Oni-Dracula 22nd September 2002 08:28

ewww nasty...women...

DarkRaven 22nd September 2002 09:52

Ihave no idea what makes me feel free . . . i guess I've never really felt totally free of worries . . .hmmmmmmmmmm . . . damn it!
