I got a job!!! A real one!
 

Well, I finally got a call back from this guy at a local newspaper. I interviewed for an ad-composing position there a while back, and he said he'd let me know either way within a few days. I waited a week and he didn't call, so I called them and was told that I was still a finalist, but he hadn't made his decision yet; it would probably be by the end of the week. I ended up calling two more times, and they said he'd call me back, but he never did... so I gave up on them.

Then, I got a call Friday from him, saying he'd like to re-interview me, and wanted to know what the earliest I could start was. Turns out, he hired two other people, BUT... one of them has really bad work ethics apparently, taking 7 or 8 smoke breaks a day (and this is a job where you basically have to be working straight through with almost no breaks), and doesn't get enough done. The other girl NEVER SHOWED UP and he couldn't get a hold of her at her home phone.

So he hired me and another gal who apparently lives on base (so hopefully we'll car pool, since I'm only about two miles off base, and it's a 35-40 minute drive to the paper). She's got newspaper and pre-press experience, two things I don't have :D, so at least I'll have someone there who knows what they're doing.



I'm so happy! I start TOMORROW with this job! I'm scared to death :( But I think it'll be fun. It's something I really want to do (composing ads to go in three local newspapers- basically the companies send in their info, and we put it into whatever size square they bought), so I think I'll have fun. But it's also going to be the most hectic job I've ever had. He said it would be AT LEAST 40 hours a week, and most people, he said, work about 43-45 hours a week. So I might have to either work late or come in on Saturdays (it's 8-5 M-F technically, with an hour lunch).

So wish me luck, and tell me not to be scared lol.

Good for you. :) Having a job that you like is one of the best things you can do for yourself. I know you'll do good with it. :)

Congratulations MetallichicA!!! I hope that you really enjoy your work. Once you get into it, not having many breaks probably won't bother you much if you are enjoying your work and being busy! I'm sure you'll do a great job :)

All I did today was sit and watch over someone else's shoulder. It was a production day, so it was basically "hell day" for them. What a day to start. That's good in a way, because that way I see what their WORST day is like, so it can only get BETTER! Heh.

The girl who takes tons of smoke breaks and does no work QUIT today. The boss was going to fire her on Wednesday anyway, but she worked the whole day today, and then at 5:00 went into his office and told him she's starting a new job tomorrow. So it's a very good thing he hired us so quickly, cuz they're gonna need HELP!

So tomorrow I actually get to do some stuff. I'll have my own desk (they didn't have one open today, otherwise I could've done some stuff) that I can put my own stuff on, and I can listen to music if I want. They've got a soda machine and snacks and stuff like that. Tomorrow morning I get to pick out my own chair out of a catalog, because the ones they have suck. They're too hard. Plus I can pick out pencil holders and stuff like that. So I guess that means I'm in for the long haul :)

I'll try to be on #******* but it definitely won't be as often (which wasn't often in the first place) :( It takes me about forty minutes to get there, and I work from 8-5, or overtime if I need to. Chris is on swings right now, so he doesn't get home til 11:00pm, so I may get on between 6 and 11 (Central Time). But of course I'll be in the forums every so often!

THE CHINCHILLA SKIN WAS A JOKE! :hang: lol :p I really hope people are joking when they say "nice skin". :D


So again, THANKS! I think I'll really like it. I'll be creating the ads AND putting them into all three papers. I definitely will be busy, but I think it'll be fun too.

The Chinchilla skin may have been a "joke" because you couldn't use it or anything , but it sure was cute to look at ,and you made some of us happy. It was one of those nice things people do around here.

I used to deliver papers, but my manager was a flagrant homosexual and a prick, so I quit. Literally, but not after earning a couple hundred bucks. :)
