winmx
Hi,
I renamed some of my files that I had downloaded with Winmx while they were in my winmx shared files folder. Now the little Winamp icon is gone from in front of them, replaced with a microsoft symbol. The only way to play them in Winamp is when I drag them drectly the Winamp player. I can't doublcick to play them, and when I right click on the icon all I get is an "open with" with the whole list of programs to choose from. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
First of all, letting us know what version of Windows would help, but its not entirely nessecary. But in future posts, save us the trouble of asking. ;)
There are two ways of fixing this: temporarily and permanantly. Temporarily: In the list of programs presented from the "Open with..." box, you can scroll down to Winamp, or if it is not visible, select "Browse" and navigate to "C:/Program Files/Winamp/winamp.exe" Permanantly: Open Winamp and goto Options. In the file types area, select all the file types you want played by Winamp. (the most relavent is .mp3) You may also want to check one of the three options at the bottom of the window regarding "Preventing other applications from stealing the file type". I'm not at a computer with Winamp installed, so I'm going from memory. But just use common sense. ;) If this is too vague or it doesn't work, reply and later on today, I'll be home at my own computer (with Winamp installed) and I can get a more detailed instruction set. Good luck! [EDIT] Welcome to the Winamp.com Forums, by the way ;) [/EDIT] |
Open My Computer
Go to View, the Folder Options In the View tab, set these 2 settings: Check "Show All Files" UNcheck "Hide file extensions for known file types" Hit Apply, then OK. Go to where your MP3's are. if you DONT see /mp3 at the end of them, but you DO see it on the others, rename the files and add the .mp3 extenstion to them. Problem should be solved. :) Also, setting thoes 2 view settings will help get rid of virus when/if you get one by allowing you to see the FULL filename, so "file.jpg.vbs" wont fool you. Also allows you to see hidden files, which could come in handy. |

Yeah, basically, you've removed the .mp3 extension from the end of the filename.
It must've been visible in the first place for you to do this, so just hi-lite the file, hit F2 and type in .mp3 at the end of the filename. Repeat for each file as necessary... (assuming they were mp3 files in the first place, lol) |
/me agrees :igor:

/me feels like an idiot...
I went back and re-read the thread starter... Yeah, I fully agree with you three. [EDIT] Not that you depended on my approval or not... (j/k) [/EDIT] |
