I don't understand...
I'm 21, forced to leave college due to New deal to go on a 2 week course , can't get a job, internet fiend to others
I'm starting to feel that what I do is pointless. |
We all feel like that sometimes.
Only advice i can give is just to go with the flow and things will work out eventually. |
you know I do my best to impress, dress smart, communicate more that what I normally do but for what...letters saying Sorry but ...Sorry but that ...whats the fucking deal?

is it me ? am I doing something wrong or are the employers so fucking sterotype crazed that they don't care who they pick as long as they have experience and looks and crap
|
Well, you do have a few options.
1. Keep stressing, pushing yourself, setting your goals too high, worry too much about what others think of you. 2. Give up, become a bum. 3. Relax, take a break, dont expect things to just drop into your lap, and when something does you'll apreciate it more. I know quite a few people that did well at school, went on to university, got their degree, and then found they couldnt get a job in their chosen field. Some got depressed, gave up and took whatever job they could get, others went back, did another course, got a job they could do part time, then eventually got the job they were looking for. |
Someone employed me, so from this I deduce that there aer some really stupid people in the world.
Don't let it get you down, you sound like your doing a lot of right things, just hasn't been your lucky streak that's all. I don't know what kind of job your after, IT or marketing or archeology or what, but you could try build some kind of portfolio, (I hate that word), make some interesting side projects for yourself. I'm sure employers would love that. Keep your chin up. |

Phily Baby's right in that you should take control of things. Build a portfolio or do side work. I got plenty of experience working on computers when I was in college, and then I took a few temp jobs where the directors noticed me and helped me learn even more than school did. Getting a job after that wasn't too hard. -=Gonzotek=- |
New Deal is a scheme made by the British Goverment to help people get into work...so they say..and since your out of work you HAVE to go on stupid fucking course to learn how to work on a CV and letters ..(I may add that I've done these courses a million over now) If you leave the course ..your money stops ..if you don't go for an interview your money can stop
Because I wanted to better myself by going college ..but since you have to look for a full time job ..or course as in CV writing...you HAVE to do it or money stops So I had to leave college Complete SHIT!!! Can you understand that...I don't Can't people see why I hate the UK? |
I'm looking for Retail work or office work
|
As you know i've been in similar situations as you. After doing all the New Deal stuff i finally got a job. I was finished a couple of weeks back. I knew it was going to happen, only i thought it was going to last until December. I was there for about 15 months.
So i'm back where i was a couple of years ago. If i get send back to the New Deal crap i don't think i'll be able to control myself. It's like back where I started three fucking years ago. As you've told me, the area has a lot to do with employment. There's little of what i want here. I see other people wanting similar work and they still are looking.. As you say, the continuous applying for work, then rejection feels pointless, but then even when i had a job my life felt pointless. Possibly move away and try a new area. I know you've told me the same thing. I need to move and try something new if i'm going to rescue this poor excuse for a life. Maybe you can try moving or something? Or try to look for another type of work in that area, if that is possible. |
Bluetape, go and have a good talk with the Dole Office, and don't go there looking for a confrontation but go there seeking their co operation, most people like the opportunity to help others. Be clear about what it is you want and ask how they can help. There used to be schemes along the lines of the New deal courses, but longer lasting 6-12 months, where you still got paid dole money, but took a few NVQs, learnt a new skill or suchlike. Not sure if they are still going, I may be well out of date on this.
Don't be too disheartened if you can't get what you want straight away. Don't let it drift, take almost any job - it is a remarkable fact that you stand more chance of finding another job that really interests you while you are working than when you are not, all to do with networking and knowing the right places to be. The job I have enjoyed for the last twenty years grew out of a few months working in a factory as a fill in between travelling. If you can't stand the UK, go look at the rest of the planet ... Nothing better, and it will certainly make you see the UK in a different light :) Above all don't loose interest, it's your life we're talking about. UJ |
A bum's life for me. No... no... loafer :)
|
I also feel that way at times, but mostly it is feelings that the subjects I am taking are useless/pointless and I wish I could get out of them and them fantasise about how good it would feel to make my guidance councellor pay for making me victim to a BS "numbers game."
(By using the word "pay", I am in no way, shape or form, referring to pain, anguish, or other physical hurt. More like envy of sorts... :) ) Dont worry, these feelings will pass. :) |
You're not the only one Bloo.... remember, I'm 23 and I JUST got my first "real" job, starting yesterday. I didn't even get CALLS or LETTERS from most places I applied at... they apparently just threw my resume out. So I ended up working in that stupid bakery for a while. It was basically minimum wage and sucked big-time. But one place finally came through, even after I had given up on them.
So you'll get your chance! :) If you hate the UK so much, why not come to America? :D har-har And if you absolutely NEED a job, why not do temp work (do they have that over there?) or work at a grocery store or just send your resume to EVERYONE that might POSSIBLY need you to work for them? /me hugs Bloo :D |
