DirectSound fading won't work? Help!
To start you off I use a SBLive5.1 with the latest drivers, os -windows xp. Onward, under the directsound output plugin, I try to turn on the fading option for 'on end of song', and 'on start' (trying to get the crossfade type deal). Anyway, I enabled both of those and hit apply. Nothing worked. I went back to look at it and it said something about raising the buffer length, so I did. Still nothing is working. I tried to use the 'custom fade time' option.. still nothing is fading. Anyone have an idea on how I can fix this? I read some of the posts on the problems with SBLive5.1 and none of them seemed to help or answer this question. Thanks in advance.
 |

What file formats are you playing?
Audio CD, WMA, or MIDI perhaps? Does the crossfader work ok with MP3 / OGG / WAV ? |
I'm using Mp3. Doesn't work with anything it seems.

better: is DirectSound status display moving when you play your "mp3s" ?

Okay . . . so to what value have you set the main buffer length?
Also, what values are prebuffer length, and have you also enabled "buffer-ahead on track change", and if so, to what value? (all in DS Output -> config -> Buffering tab) Most importantly, in "Other" tab, have you enabled "remove silence at beg/end of track"? If yes, then this overrides the crossfader settings . . . |
All my buffers where at defualt. I had read that fading depended on amount of buffering available so I raised all of them. I raised them each about 100ms.. all the way up to about an extra 1000ms each. It still didnt fade. No I do not have remove silence checked, and yes I can see the bars moving under the 'status' tab.

Weird!
DS crossfader should work ok with MP3's AFAIK, it does for everyone else, including me. First of all, make sure you've got the latest DirectSound Output plugin, as available with the official wa2update patch. Then open Winamp, and make sure for both "on start" and "on end of song" that "Enabled" is checkmarked. You can also increase "default fade length" value, and/or checkmark each individual "use custom fade" to set a higher value per setting. Basically, the buffer size must be larger than the highest "fade" value. If it isn't, when you click "OK", you should be presented with a message dialog stating that buffer size needs increasing. It will also ask you if you would like the plugin to automatically adjust the buffer size for you, so click "yes" to this. Finally, make sure "logarithmic fades" is NOT checkmarked ("Other" tab) Okay everything, and close and re-open Winamp to make sure settings take effect. There's no reason why this shouldn't work, so if you still have problems, then I'm pretty much stumped . . . |
Well I did all that, NOTHING WORKED. Screw it.. i'm just going to get rid of my oh so loved winamp2 and just get winamp3. Atleast with winamp3 I know the crossfade works (tried it). Thanks for the input, wish it would have worked out alittle better for us though.:p

Please post some screenshots of your settings or a copy of your winamp.ini file so we can see what you have done wrong.
