Autoplay problems revisited and solved ...
 

After my frantic posts a week or two ago about autoplay dysfunction, I appeared to have "solved" the problem with my DVD Rom autoplay at least, using a combaination of several fixes provided here. However, I continued to have autoplay problems and other weirdness with my burner (slaved). Finally, it dawned on me that the problem might be hardware related. (I had discounted this before because I had problems with BOTH CD drives, and no one else suggested it.) ANYWAY, I grit my teeth and bought a new burner yesterday -- worked fine for 5 minutes then fizzled. More teeth gritting. I had been too lazy to install with the new cable provided (caring for my fingers as I do) so I went back in and did that. Behold, I found out that the pin connector to the motherboard wasn't seated properly ............. LMAO. ;)

Oh well, I got myself a really FAST burner out of all this. (Which obvsiouly explains the DVD player mucking up as well.) I had been using my system/DVD/burner like this for AGES. And the moral of the story is: check thy hardware!!! (Doh.)
