Cameron221 28th October 2002 03:03

this thread is not pointless.lets tell some examples of what you got away with as a child, and what could have prevented it.are your parents good parents?

RanDom_ErrOr 28th October 2002 03:08

pixie where did you get your sig pic.. its cool

dollerspark 28th October 2002 03:12

Depends on the age. A newborn baby? Yes. A six-year old? Less innocent than a newborn, but still innocent.

As for "are adults ignorant"...

I was a good kid. Until 4th grade when I actually found my pocketknife in my pocket. The girl next to me gasped and me being the wise young person I was, actually told her I would cut her up if she told anybody.
I am not proud of myself, I only tell this story as a confession of a mostly good adult, but mostly idiotic child.
I almost got expelled.

Which raises an a good question... if you aren't aware of the seriousness/consequences/morality of your actions, are you truly guilty? Which would lead one to believe that innocence is nothing more then ignorance.

I don't really know if children are innocent, everyone is capable of causing harm. An example are things like school shootings etc.

Anyone ever read The Lord Of The Flies ? Thats another example.

Even a monkey can remember 9 numbers, and you're not dumber than a monkey, are you...oh wait, nevermind...

SNYder 28th October 2002 04:29

we are all innocent.

Shh! If you keep it up, people will think you're me posing as you to give myself someone to argue with :igor:

Fickle 28th October 2002 04:55

woa...(perpeptual confusion)

I think innocence is actually allowed ignorance. How's THAT for intriguing.

okay, maybe not so good.

Nat_roy 28th October 2002 05:13

rm' and some1, would you please take your little flame war somewhere else.

And I have to agree that innocence is in fact ignorance. If you are unaware of commiting a crime, then you are innocent.

That's not true...everybody around here knows that I'm the one who likes to argue if only for the sake of argument, so if anything they will think that you are me posing as you so that I can have another pointless argument.

Um...this is rm's thread, not yours, and if rm' wants to have a flame-war in it then that's his business and if you don't like it you can make your own thread and wait until somebody flames you and then tell them to leave, because it's your thread.

"The Arrogance of Ignorance; The Ignorance of Arrogance"
I not sure of order and it doesn't matter in this case.
Quote is by Samuel Johnson, I think not sure. Of course,
if I am wrong they'll be a runin' to tell me, yup, yup!!

I know that in law ignorance is not a defence but then that means even unknowingly a bod can be guilty? but thats law for you. ( example here [ use Imagination!])

You were??? :igor: Where exactly??

I've always known it as "itsy bitsy spider" too.....

rm' 28th October 2002 17:19

Dublin. But like I said, my parents were immigrants... so either they didn't translate something right, or the Irish accent confounded them. But, that still doesn't explain why my primary school teachers also said "Inky, dinky spider".

c2R 28th October 2002 17:25

I do know of a few people I've met over the years use Inky Dinky spider; but it's definitely itsy bitsy.

It's excellent, mature, conversation when drunk at the pub. As is the topic of what do the numbers on the side of the glasses mean?.

No you're not guilty if you are unaware (for whatever reason) of what the results of your actions will be.

Innocence, to me, has always meant "the inability to think with malice" or "total moral purity". (Those are generalized statements BTW.) Innocence is not necessarily ignorance, but a touch of ignorance doesn't hurt.

Widdykats 28th October 2002 17:48

Johnson's quote btw has to do with "those who wish to remain ignorant"
As in..."you know when you beat your dog like that, it will make him
nervous and unhappy" other person..."nah I don't think so..."
and there are a million more examples, which would be bigger and maybe more to the point. But you get the idea, unless you don't
want to :D

I dunno... I was raised in Ireland... by immigrants. Something obviously got garbled along the way :igor:

In response to the lower comment, I'm sure there are cultural variations, and somethings probably get lost in translation if things were in fact translated.

Very good point. I know legally, in Canada, (as I'm sure you know as well rm) that a crime is only considered a crime, if, amongst 1 other major criteria):
a) You intend to commit a crime (so innocent ignorance releases you from this responsibility, thus, it is not a crime)
b) You understand and appreciate the nature and consequences of the crime you commited.

Thus, if you are in fact innocently ignorant, a case can easily be make that you are ignorant. If this is not the case, then you could look at it this way, if did commit the act but without being able to fulfil either of the above criteria, then you would be guilty of committing the act, but not found legally guilty (and possibly morally) for commiting the act deliberately.

However, if you look at ignorance with a negative connotation, then innocence and ignorance are two different things. Ignorance in this case could be defined as rudeness.

You're on rm's ignore list so how is he going to hear your protest for the removal of this so called flame war if he cant see your post?

Cameron221 28th October 2002 21:49

he can hear me.

rm' 28th October 2002 21:51

I checked the lost and found; no eyes there, so I've concluded that it must be all fun and games.

Fickle 28th October 2002 21:53

Sorry, I was wondering if we were still talking about the flame "war" a day later. I'll come back tomorrow.
