Winamp portable MP3 player
I think Nullsoft could make a ton of money if they could start selling Winamp portable MP3 players (you know---like the little ones you buy in stores that store MP3s on them). That way a portable MP3 player could have the same great features in Winamp. The Winamp for the MP3 player would need to have a more compact visual layout than the version for the computer, but it would be more compact in having individual buttons/areas of the screen would activate a single thing out of several aspects of Winamp. Like one button would cause the equalizer to fill the screen, etc.) It could also have b/w visuals, and if the public would pay for it, also color visuals. It would be a major status symbol having visuals on an MP3 player made by Nullsoft with Winamp built-in.
What do you think of that idea? |
Umm, no.
/me shakes my head. |
Why not? :D I'd buy about 15 of them! Then I'd use mine after school w/ some great visualizations. When people see mine, they'll want one, and they'll eventually save enough to get one. Every time I run AVS at school on my laptop (even though I usually sit in the back of the room), somehow a crowd of people always forms to watch the visuals. Okay, maybe the technology would be too high priced for most people, but I'd use mine all the time! I'd love to have a portable MP3 player with the capabilities of downloading Winamp plugins into it! But maybe that's just me.

No, because Nullsoft doesn't make hardware. Winamp is simple, it's just a media player and a website, no huge Winamp world of fun. And you can't skin an MP3 hardware player, which Winamp is known for.

There was someone from Sony UK who stopped by recently to do market research for a hardware player, in conjunction with Nullsoft. Wait a few months to see what turns up.

Heh, this is the third time this subject has come up since I've been around these forums. :)
I remember when all the other "old timers" around here were coming up with ideas like faceplates (à la cell phones) instead of skins, three main pieces that you could detach and reattach to each other (docking :)), an internal 20 gig hard drive to store the mp3s, USB connection to load the files and plugins, etc... :) |
get an iPod. ;)

Of course I understand that because people have the right to form their own opinions, some people will think this is impossible or improbable. That's all part of designing something...it's determining whether there will be enough supporters that is most important. And criticism, if taken in the right attitude, can improve a product further than the suggestions of supporters. |
