puter help
Ok my pc is screwed (well the windows partition is) Is it possible to format my windows partition without killing linux? The last time when i had suse it took me a long time to fix and i had to reinstall linux. I have redhat 8 and i need to format and reinstall windows 2000 pro. Will i kill it if i use fdisk?

right, what'll prolly happen is that windows 2000 will overwrite lilo (linux loader), but if you have the linux CD, you can usually boot your hard-drive install of linux from that (at least, in slackware you can), and from there you should be able to get the lilo system working again. MAYBE. i don't have much experience of this.

Yes, win2k will overwrite the mbr, so make sure you have a boot cd available so you can rewrite it after re-installing win2k.

*hiss* Linux :igor:

Yeah, you are going to have to boot linux off of a disk/cd at that point. Unless you can't avoid it, it is best to install OS's in the following order: Win95/98/Me, then WinNT/2K/XP, and finally Linux.

if you wanna save yourself a lot of time and trouble, save your Master boot record before you mess with either OS. Using FDISK wont hurt linux, because it is positively incapable of modifying an ext2 partiton. Anways use the renshish partiton manager (available on CNET) or Mater Booter 3.2 (available on www.majorgeeks.com) to backup your MBR. Then reinstall windows 2000, and restore you MBR. That way lilo will be saved.
