Chill out tunes.

I just decided to make a playlist of relaxed tracks, and found that only around 10% of my music could fit into the 'relaxed' category.

So what are your fave chill out tunes??

Some that i would reccomend are:

Sneaker pimps - Six underground
Moby - Harbour
Basement Jaxx - Romeo (accoustic mix)
Atb - Beach vibes
Lamb - What sound
D*note - Shed my skin
Leftfield - A final hit
Itch-e & scratch-e - Sweetness and light
Blur - Sing
Faithless - One step too far
Faithless - Flowerstand man
Bjork - Hyperballad
Bjork - Hidden place

rm' 4th November 2002 06:22

Frank [Sinatra] is my emergency music. He's the thing to save my life. I don't rely on him too much, though... only for emergencies. Moby hits the spot pretty sweetly too, and I can always rely on Delerium.

randman 4th November 2002 06:25

Simon & Garfunkel. Beautiful harmony between those two voices.

Twilightseer 4th November 2002 07:33

Brian Eno stuff.

insomniac 4th November 2002 08:55

Way Out West - Intensify (Blind Faith Remix)
DJ Tiesto - Battleship Grey
Delerium - (many tracks)
Depeche Mode - Dream On
Faithless - (entire Outrospective album)
Chicane (feat. Maire Brennan of Clannad) - Saltwater (The Thrillseekers Remix)
Freefall - Skydive (John Johnson Ambient Remix)
Moby - Go (In Dub Mix)

many others, too many to list...

Merlin 4th November 2002 10:56

I whack The Verve's Urban Hymns into the stereo. It's just so great.

Royksopp's Melody AM is another album suited to the chilling man.

raydream 4th November 2002 11:46

Kyoto jazz masive - substrream (album)
Yoko Kanno - (anything really from 1998 onwards)
however, i do suggest Stand alone complex OP
BOA - Duvet

Sublime - Slow ride

DJ Egg 4th November 2002 16:05

I am the lord of the chill. ;)
Got literally 1000's of top chill tunes (CD, vinyl, mp3)
Oh, you want a list . . . aaahhh!

Umm, here's a few suggestions of the top of my head:

Tangerine Dream
Pete Namlook / Fax label (David Moufang, Robert Musso, Dr Atmo, etc)
Bill Laswell / Axiom label (check out collaborations with Jah Wobble)
Spacetime Continuum (Jonah Sharp)
Woob / Emit label
Makyo / Silent label
Feed Your Head compils (Planet Dog label)
A Reminiscent Drive
Sounds From The Ground / Sound Information label
Further - 5 Further Journeys
Irresistible Force / Mixmaster Morris / Rising High label
The Orb
Loop Guru
Endless amounts of Ambient Dub (Banco De Gaia, Higher Intelligence Agency, Suns of Arqa, Sub Dub, Scorn, Children of Dub, Drome, We, Sandoz, Digidub, Children of the Bong, Unitone Hi-Fi, Original Rockers, Trauma Club, etc etc)

Plenty of the above aforementioned also (esp. Brian Eno, but most of the rest of those artists aren't essentially classed as chill-out, just the occasional trax only)

Of course, it also depends on what you class as chill-out . . .
To some people, it's anything slower than ~130bpm
To others it's jazz-derivatives, or dub, or beatless ambient,
and then there's the global/world scene (Transglobal Underground, Loop Guru, Makyo, Afro Celt Sound System, Mo Boma, etc etc)
Then there's folk/hippy chill from the late 60's to mid 70's.
Some chill to mellow drum & bass, others to mellow rock . . .
whereas others are strictly classical, baroque 'n roll, hehe.

Then again, I can chill to almost anything:
Hawkwind, Porcupine Tree, Joy Division, Future Sound of London, Dead Can Dance, Durutti Column, Delerium, Adiemus, Seefeel, Autechre, Thievery Corp., Unkle, Massive Attack, Coil, Mouse On Mars, Goldfrapp, Astralasia, Peter Gabriel, Little Axe, Pat Metheny, Can, Camel, Kitaro, Hillage, Floyd . . . you name it, I've crashed out to it, lol.

Now, as for specific trax . . .

for chill-out music, i usually throw in something really mellow like 54-40, or something like that
that or some music which i have good memories associated w/ like butthole surfers (i always would put this on when hanging out w/ friends) or weezer

3. George Thalben-ball - Elegy
4. Buxtehude - Praeludium in f# minor

Some other good chill out albums are the unplugged albums from Nirvana and Alice in Chains..those two and 40oz to Freedom are my favorite cd's. Oh yeah, can't forget Fugazi.

Yeah, I've crashed out to both "Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil)" and "The Revealing Science of God" before, wowzas, mega epic trax, but it's been a few years since I've listened to any of that stuff.

@hue
Yup, Tangerine Dream have released 100's of albums over the past 30 years or so, and they've also done 100's of soundtracks too. Some of the more notable ones are:
Risky Business | Legend | Sorcerer | Thief | Shy People | Flashpoint | Dead Solid Perfect | Canyon Dreams | The Keep (like ya said, and hey, what an awesome soundtrack it is, eh ?!)

There's loads more, hang on a mo while I do a google . . .
Yeah, here ya go :)

[edit]

@GLewellen
Talvin Singh
the tabla king :)

@Dylman
Wow, Dr Phibes! That's rare (but excellent) stuff.
I've got a couple of scratchy vinyl LP's/12's from the early to mid 90's.
Gonna see if I can dig them out, haven't seen them for years, lol :D

@Bilbo
Our tastes in music are so uncannily similar, heyhey
Not too many (or, not enough) Ozrics & Porcupine Tree fans here . . .

RanDom_ErrOr 5th November 2002 01:59

beethoven - fur elise
gorillaz - sunshine in a bag
Beethoven - Moonlight sonata
Cake - Going The distance
trans-siberian orchestra - carol of the bells
incubus - steller
sneaker pimps - six underground (yes i know)

meaisl8again 5th November 2002 02:08

I like listening to Ben Harper to chill, but I also like the Trans Siberian Orchastra, and Rush.

ACDC helps me chill too for some reason. Maybe because nothing says "Fuck me" like Back in Black... :o

Don't forget: the Eagles, Placebo, Slow Roosevelt, the Verve and Ben Folds...

But on the choral aspect, I like Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, and Conforti.

Lots of Love,
Mea

EDIT: I forgot my classical favorites.

311 - Who's Got The Herb?

rm' 5th November 2002 04:07

For those of you saying Moby, check out his compilation disc, "Early Underground". It's a good sampler of his early, club work (and from there, you can decide which of his LP you'd like to own :)). A lot of it is very mellow, and soothing.

Avalon 5th November 2002 04:09

They have cd's meant for chilling and such (no this is not just blant shamless advertising, I actually like these things).

Ultra.Chillded 01, Ultra.Chilled 02 and the new (which I need to get) Ultra.Chilled 03.

rm' 5th November 2002 04:12

As much as I hate to admit it, MTV's Weekender discs are actually pretty good.

I am Jesus 5th November 2002 04:15

Hey rm' what is the name of that one song from moby that is sort of a 007ish? I saw the video on MTV once but I forgot the name.:(
