Not gonna list brands, as what sounds good to me may not sound good to you, just make sure you listen to whatever you buy before you buy it. Go to a proper hi-fi store, and take a few cd's with you.
One thing i will reccomend though, is to get as big a subwoofer as you can afford. Small subs are usually designed to output a lot of sound across a very narrow spectrum, meaning you think theres some serious bass to be had, when there really isnt. A 10 or 12 inch sub in a well constructed sealed or ported enclosure should be able to get down to 40hz before output starts to drop...and play smoothly up to around 100hz.
Rather than go for small sattelites, go for 5 or 6 inch drivers, with a proper dome tweeter...dual 4 inch drivers in the centre channel should be ok.
As for amplifiers, it really is a choice of how loud do you want to spend?? A true 50wrms per sattelite, would be fine for general listening...100wrms will give some more headroom, allowing you to play really dynamic music at high levels without too much fear of clipping.
200-250wrms for the sub will give enough output to really shake the walls...Just make sure it has a variable low pass filter.
