win32 error 0x79 when playing audio CD's

Using Winamp 2.81 in Windows XP I get the above error whenever I try to play an audio CD. I have installed the CDreader .dll and set up my player to autoplay audio CD's with Winamp. I'm using a Pioneer CDROM/DVD player to play CD's. Is my player the problem? I also tried Winamp 3.0 with no luck either

Thanks for the prompt reply, but still no go. I followed your links, installed all aspi drivers per Adaptech instructions for Windows XP, and now get the following error messages:

"aspi error 0x4 (SRB completed with error)"
"sense key: 0x4 9 (hardware error)"
"sense code:0x9 0x1 (Track following error)"

Can you make any "sense" (sorry couldn't resist) out of these error messages?

I'm sure it's explained in those links above, but you need to configure the CDReader plugin according to the specs of your CD-ROM device.

Winamp -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> Input -> CDReader -> config
General tab -> Hi-lite drive -> config
Make sure the ASPI Device matches the correct drive name.
Likewise for the other options (buffer, speed, etc)
Also, checkmark "ignore" under 'read errors'

Okay everything, close & reopen Winamp for changes to take effect.

If the problems persist, then it must be a Windows config error to blame.
Can you play Audio CD's ok in other players?
Is "enable digital cd audio" checkmarked in:
System Control Panel -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> CD-ROM -> Pioneer drive -> Properties -> properties tab?

Thanks, your "Winamp -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins, etc." info finally did the trick. Surprised cdreader didn't include that in their readme

yay :)
Glad it worked :up:
