Yorkie sexist?

Well I know most people here will know about the "yorkie" choclate bar. I don't know if anyone else here agrees with me but it is a bit sexist saying that "IT'S NOT FOR GIRLS!" clearly on the side of the wrapper and "NOT AVAILABLE IN PINK" on the back. Do they think we're all weak tarts or something and I hate the colour pink. And its the advert thats stupid too.For those of you that haven't seen it a girl walks into a shop dressed as a guy and ask's for a yorkie. The shopkepper does these try outs to see if she is a girl she passes all of them except for the last one wich is when the shopkepper says
"the wrapper really brings out the blue in your eyes" and she blows her cover and he doesn't give her the choclate bar! How stupid is that I would of said "give me the damn choclate bar" and walked off.
I don't want to start a war or something I was just expressing my opinion what does everyone else think?

Vie 21st November 2002 19:46

I know, its not fair....

...I want the pink one!!!

:D

It's a bar of milk chocolate, synonomous with HGV drivers, white van men, and sun readers. The advertizing campaign jokes that it's not for girls, and a man's chocolate bar. It's designed to appeal to men (who are the target audience for the product). And it works; it's generated loads of pubilicity (they were out in shopping centres only giving free samples to men). All these feminists are getting so upset over nothing, it's really funny.

Widdykats 21st November 2002 20:36

Ad Campaign wise did they at least Irish Spring it..
You , know Manly , but girls like it too?

c2R 21st November 2002 20:42

Nope, it was blatently sexist :D

will 21st November 2002 20:51

Possibly, but that means the advertising campaign is working by creating brand awareness and also appealing to the target audience :p

Widdykats 21st November 2002 21:13

Most of the women I know wouldn't buy a Yorkie bar anyway - they regard it as too much chocolate, as they're all on forever on diets and trying to lose weight...

Bilbo Baggins 21st November 2002 21:22

Plenty of girls buy Yorkie bars too. The advertising campaign just pokes a bit of fun. It is the hardcore feminists in dungarees who complain about such matters (not that I am implying that anyone except Binary Hero is a hardcore feminist in dungarees).

dylman 21st November 2002 21:25

An entirely good humoured post. :)

At the moment in the UK there is also an advert for (I think) Hugo Boss aftershave, which consists entirely of a naked man poncing around his apartment. 30 seconds of gratuitous naked male arse. I take it that our Outraged Female Correspondent has no objection to this?

Hmmmm... thought not. :)

i am such a hardcore feminist, i have nailed by breasts down to my chest, and i have a pair of huge breasts tattooed over them, as a symbol that i will not be defined by my breasts. And i don't wear dungarees, just a pair of boxors, to show that i am not inhibited by my sexuality, and i can also show off my fake breasts :)

fwgx 22nd November 2002 08:13
