What's the point of the Media Library?

The Media Library is a good idea. But it isn't working well for me. Perhaps it's that I don't understand the way that it's supposed to be used. I find the KaZaA media library to work much better for my needs and wish Winamp3's worked in the same manner.

I keep all of my music in one folder on my computer. I want the media library to be a live representation of what I have on my computer. I'd also like it to act as a file manager. However, when I delete a file on my computer it is not also deleted from Winap3's media library. When KaZaA downloads a new song into that directory, it doesn't automatically appear in Winamp3's media library. KaZaA's media library does both of these things.

This means that I have to delete the contents of the media library and have it re-scan my computer ever time I make any changes. Which takes too long so as to be impractical.

So, maybe I just don't understand how the media library is supposed to be used. Or maybe there's a plug-in that extends it to do what I want.

What's a usage scenario - how do you use it?

How do you use the media library when it doesn't automatically update itself to reflect the files that are on your computer? Thanks.

use the Songloader component.....I think there's another component that does it too but I don't know what it's called....

Thanks for the link. I've installed Winamp3 again and I've installed that component and I'll play around with it. It seems to be a neat idea. I'll play around with it. If you remember the name of that other component, please let me know.

I don't know how the thing works either.
Like you I use my directories to organize my music files into albums, genres, or playlists.
The explorer playlist component is a godsend. It allows the playlist editor to display your directory tree - just like windows explorer (assuming your using windows) along side the playlist. Awesome.

I'm having similar problems using the media library. It worked for a while; as I played CDs, info from them would get loaded from the Net, and listed in the media libraty. Then gave up the ghost. Not only is it not loading information from the net, but now the playlist will not reflect my current CD - I've been stuck on Cordelia's Dad for two weeks, even though I've played dozens of CDs in the interim.

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Well, one way to "get around it" would be to do what I did...

I completely uninstalled/reinstalled Winamp3 but WITHOUT Media Library support. Now I just use the Playlist Editor (more than I need for my needs anyway) and have absolutely no problems with CDDB support for CDs. The Playlist Editor always reflects my current CD. ;)

Your choice. :D
