Thanks, but I don't really do anything.
Most all problems have already been solved. I just point out where the solution is. Yes, I could (and used to) include a direct link, but having folks go through the searching, clicking, scanning, and reading is half the help. There are 6 levels of support. 1 = None 2 = RTFM (read the *&^% manual) -or- STFF (search the *&%^*& forums) 3 = The answer can be found by doing/going... 4 = The answer can be found here (simulated link) 5 = The answer is (spew text) 6 = I'll fix it for you Obviously, #6 isn't an option. #5 opens a new thread on the same problem/solution pair. This disjoints the solutions and can cause confusion on which thread to read and/or follow. #4 is a direct path the the answer and the most convenient for the person with the problem. However, this method tends to train folks that answers will be spoon fed. #3 (What I do) maps out the path to the answer, but lets the person with the problem walk it. Along the way, it is hoped the person will admire the wildlife and foliage (that is, read other threads). #2 Think of the flames, the horror, the newbies. #1 This is a free product, right? I don't have all the answers. I don't respond to every post. [/soap box] Last, thanks again for the thanks. |
